Answering the popular demand (of ford and Oak), here it is at last !

Here we can discuss anything brown and/or bronze. Oakley-related, of course. Keep it non-sexual and non-racial please.

Here is a list of suggested topics of conversation we could start with:

Brown Tortoise
Brown Smoke
Bronze
Dark Bronze
Bronze Polarized
Brown Gradient
VR50 Brown Gradient (ford this one's for you lil' hottie)
Brown Juliet (have fun Oak)
Chocolate Habanero
Chocolate Casing
Brown Skull Lanyard
Brown Plate Belt (have fun Eric)

Now I have one question regarding an uncertainty : Can we include/talk about Rust in this thread ? Let's hear some opinions !

Rust is a shade of brown, so yeah it belongs here.

Same goes for:

Rootbeer
Polished Rootbeer
Gold Iridium
Titanium Iridium
VR28 and all of its Iridium variations
Whiskey
Brown Fade
Earth

Now, what gen of Gold Iridium has the most brown hues?

I love Bronze. Bronze is the best. They should have a lens called Super Bronze because it's just that good.

I also love the Brown Juliet. Probably the most unique and rarest production Juliet out there with somewhere in the neighbourhood of 300 produced (just a guess based on serial numbers). It was unfortunately released during the Juliet's twilight and thus didn't get the attention it deserved. Some say it looks like Carbon, and while that may be the case in pictures, it looks quite different in person. The frame is quite dark in general, but the colour shines out in bright lighting. The only thing I didn't like about the Brown Juliet is its coupling with VR28 Black Iridium. I would've liked it more had it come stock with Titanium Iridium instead.

I've also heard it said that the Brown Juliet was made for Tennis? Don't remember who said it, but it was on O-Review here.

I think the second generation (circa 1999-200) has the best brownish hue. All others have too much of a a yellowish/24k tinge to it. And having yellow in it, you know, makes it not ruby...I mean brown any more.

The topic of Rust can be included here, but we should limit it to the topic of lens hues from the 80's and early 90's. Rust was assumed to be the predecessor of Persimmon, but it however did appear side by side with the addition of the Persimmon lens in 1993.

On the topic of Bronze though, that also went through a few naming changes. Bronze was used early in the days of Eyeshades and Blades to refer to a lens similar to rust, but then later a new lens came out which while still refered to as Bronze, has a mirror coating, and was actually Bronze Iridium. To avoid the confusion, this was changed to Gold Iridium around the time of the Zero's and Wires. So a Sub Zero 2N has Bronze Iridium, but a Zero 0.4 has Gold Iridium.

Later on the iridium-less bronze lens became a polarized variant and was named Gold Polarized. This was moved backwards to Bronze Polarized, and Gold Iridium Polarized remained.

I've never seen a Gold Ir lens that had too much yellow in it. They've always looked pretty consistent and really it's because of the bronze base. As with Tungsten I see a bronze tint in it (without light coming through from the rear) even if it is a near Black Ir caoting, but still mos tlikely thanks to the base. I've never seen Gold Ir too close to 24K or Fire.

What about opinions on Rust, the frame color ? I think Rust/VR28 Blk Ir. Plrzd is in my Top 5 favourite MDs. So nice ! Rust w/ Oakley Text MP sure looks to be very good-looking too.

So we got :

MD
MP
Grapevine
Canteen
GC

What am I missing ?

Phil, I agree with you on Tungsten: we can definitely see the brown in it. Brown is so key. Always go brown. What can brown do for you ? Tick I'm asking YOU this question ! Personally, I still prefer Titanium Ir. though. Personal choice. Maybe we should start a poll on this...

What shade or derivative of Brown do you prefer for frame color ?

What shade or derivative of Bronze do you prefer for lense tint ?

C'mon mods, let's have a poll. This is no everyday-talk topic we're dealing with here...people need to know !

Well I got my Bronze Polarized Oil Drums today, so it's great this thread is here.

The Brown Smoke frame is quite nice, its more brownish than yellowish, which I like. The gold icons complement the whole package nicely.

The lenses are great! I think they're good beach party sunglasses. They give the world that yellow glow plus if you're talking to girls they can see your eyes, which at first you might think is bad because you can't just blatantly stare at their chest, but girls like eye contact so the non-iridium coasting works a treat in my opinion.

The over all subduded colour of the glasses makes them one of my favourites.

I'm just glad they don't have generations of Bronze otherwise I'd have to buy more than one pair! LOL

Or so you think fordy...

On the girls topic, I like to show girls that they're not my primary concern, so for them not to know if I'm looking in their eyes, in their cleavage, at the car passing by or in their friend's cleavage, works just fine for me.

Fordy don't tell me you've become a soft-lover like Eric now ! I know you're the most good-looking Posing Wankster, but c'mon dude.

I was actually referring to Rust the frame color in my earlier post... I totally forgot about the Rust lens tint.

So that brings up another debate, which lens had more ORANGE? Rust or Persimmon? Or was that lens also a victim of generational variations?

I like the Rust frame color, from what I have seen as I don't yet think I've seen it in person. Once my MD shows though. I'm not thrilled about the pairing of the VR28 Black lens though. Something about a frame and lens that look like one uniform color gets to me. I'm swapping the lens into a black frame and a Dark Grey lens into the Rust. But it does look to be a great color.

hmmmm certainly an interesting mix of people in this thread.

I must say i fookin hate the bronze lens, its sooo overused and its not strong enough for my sensitive eyes. bring on more dark bronze which is slighty better
but gold iridium all the way!!!!!!!!!!

Keep blathering on Lex! j/k The Tungsten Lens is my choice of late. The coating doesn't overwhelm the bronze base like Titanium.

Bronze gives better depth perception than the standard grey.

I'm with Ranger. I love the contrast that Bronzes offers. That and VR28 based lenses. You can't beat it. Grey for me is too light a lens, and Black Ir is too, well not dark, but I don't like it. So I go Dark Grey and get the greener base. I like the Dark Bronze too now that it's being widely used. More than Gold Ir even. Put Gold over VR28 though and it's one of the best lenses I have ever seen.

ABout the lenses: My favortite non polarized, non iridium lense is dark grey (I'm not mentioning the low light lenses)! The best iridium lense is Titanium Ir. and The best Iridium and Pol. lense is VR28 BI. I like VR28 BI POL much more than the usual VR28 BI and I prefer Titanium over Titanium Pol... just because of the baseteint that differs.

By the way - I have a Crosshair with VR50 to Black Gradient and was wondering if it is the same as VR50 to brown?

Do you mean the Crosshair with the G40 Black Gradient?

There is a VR50-Brown Gradient coming on rebranded Stretchline frames but I don't think they're in other frames yet. Is it? I don't see that having any Ir coating or anything. Isn't one part of the above Ir, the Black or G30 portion?

Later on the iridium-less bronze lens became a polarized variant and was named Gold Polarized. This was moved backwards to Bronze Polarized, and Gold Iridium Polarized remained.
That explains why my Dark Amber/Gold Polarized MD's has the same sku# as the Dark Amber/Bronze Polarized.

I love my Brown Smoke Text GCS. It's shweet.

I object to Rust being included in the list of brown hues. Clearly it is a red color and should be shunned.

Also explains why Jet Black and Polished Black models have the same SKU's. Different frame, different name, but still considered from a sales point to be the same pair.

I thought Bronze worked well polarized, but Tungsten is just fantastic...

What a great thread! I love brown! I eat, drink, &...well, you get the point.
I'm anxious to see Tungsten myself. My OPD is huge, they've even been fully converted over to the new tower styles & yet no Tungsten. Also 2 things missing from discussion here are 2 of my favorites; Gold X frames & Leather Gold Lenses! There are few lenses that look sexier than Leather Gold. So deep & rich in color.
