100% agree, well said Lee, lets not ruin the O-Reveiw sig pair before it even happens.
IT WILL HAPPEN one day, so just be patient and if you must get a custom etching on your lens get your username or something else fun.

Thanks for the support. As much as I hate to be a spoil sport, I do have to play the bad guy once in a while. I'd love for everyone to get an O-Review pair someday, but if so, I want it to be consistent and organized. Since the site is my IP, I do wish to control its use to a degree. I have no problem sharing, but I'd like the final say. So please be patient and perhaps we can work something out, so the pair that may come out of this actually has a meaning, rather than a one-off.

Let me just pose this question. Would you be willing to pay the cost+shipping in advance, and still wait until the full 75 or so are accounted for before receiving them. Even if it takes months.

I am down for that as long as the style and colorway is agreed upon upfront...I trust you Dann in your judgement and there would be no reason why it wouldn't work out well.

Style and colorway would definitely be a take or leave sort of thing. Unless everyone hates it with a passion, but I imagine something classy would surely be fine for most people. I know a lot of people would want to wear them, and others just display them, so I'd try to meet in the middle.

It's probably have to be a Five 3.0 just for the cost factor X 75 pair.

very well said guys. i agree with holding off on getting a custom O-Review pair, if there would be an OFFICIAL O-Review pair it ought to be uniform and reflect the integrity of the website. get something personal for the time being.

as for choosing the style and colourway, i would think people would be happy enough with something, even if it's not based on personal preference. personally i don't care what the official style and colourway would end up being, i would be thrilled and honored to own an official O-Review pair anyhow. it's all about celebrating this website and not about personal wants and/or needs.

I agree with you Bong. If you really want to represent the site you just want to have one whatever it may be. Like Dann said, some will wear it, and some will display it if they choose. I know that there's not just one style/design that all of us in the O-review would like or agree on, but Dann I'm sure will be fair in choosing one that will be favorable for most of us here in the review.

Well my two cents is I dont know about any other member here besides J. Janard had any say in chossing the Style/Colorway of any Oakley eyeware. Darn id say about 25% of my collection i never wear because it does not look good on me ie. pennys and mars but i still went out and paid top $$ for them because i like the way they looked. Ok point is this democratic voting thing is nice but i say Dann make the selection and those who want to buy buy those who dont dont. I would like to have an exclusive pair of O-review eyeware whatever the style or color. Sign me up for a pair and I am definetly willing to pay up front

Just for the record, both Dawn and I would easily pay for two pairs upfront, and await the end of the project, regardless of how long it takes.

The O-Review is like home to us, and we sincerely appreciate Dann, the crew that holds both the website and forum together, as well as the community for making us feel this way.

Quite honestly, I believe this site has in fact helped our love (and sickness) for Oakleys grow.

I would be totally down for it as long as people left the decision up to Dann. As soon as everyone starts offering "suggestions" I fear the whole thing would deteriorate as it has in the past.

Is it possible to get this done through OPD or through any stores selling Oakley eyewear? I would like to support my local optical store in view of Oakley opening up so many and overpowering the smaller ones and taking their turf away.

Or can this only be done through phone? Also, since it's a couple more days to Nov, is it certain that all O stores will be able to do this Laser Etching at their location?

Good morning fellaz...

Since I bought the custom case with the etching cert about 2 weeks or so ago, I had a question. How do I go about using this cert now? Would I be able to send my own lenses in, or not? Do I have to call Oakley Customer Service/Warranty for a TR first? How does this work?

Thanks, Ollie

From what I was told, you have to order the etching from the store you bought the cert from, and they will send it out as a custom build.

So if I bought it at the vault, I can just bring the lenses there and they send them out, or do i need to send the compelete glasses in?

BTW - Thanks Dann!

You need to order a new OCE pair, and have them order it. Don't believe you can do anything to a pair already in your possession.

what a rip...so in other words the custom kit I bought with the etching cert is worthless on stuff I already own, unless I buy a whole new pair of glasses and have them send it in along with that cert, right?

Well the whole deal with the promo, was to give free etching to people who were going to get a Custom pair. Not just a free etching in general. It's a coupon really.

Oh I understand - but I think than they should enforce the requirements better and not just say "Hey - you can buy this fancy little kit if you buy a $150 gift card" and the cert is pretty much worthless unless you buy some custom glasses. They should restrict it by saying "The only way you can get this fancy little kit is if you buy a pair of sunglasses, and as an option, we can send them in to get free custom etched".

See where I am coming from? Don't get me wrong, I love the case and the idea behind customizing your stuff right from factory, but they should have put a little more thought behind it in my opinion or make sure the employees communicate it to the customers correctly. Don't know if it's just our Vault, since it just opened in December, but I heard 3 different stories of what is required to get the kit and what can be done with it.

Oh well...

But on the other hand, what about the etching cert that you can buy for $20 if you buy a $100 gift card? How can that be used? Also only on orders?

You're right, they should have worded it a little better, and then I got mine, they told me that up front. I didn't care about the etching, and they weren't even going to let me keep the cert unless I ordered one right there, or gave it to someone who could come back to the store and order a pair. But I finally got it when I said I'd never use it.

Ditto on the statement that laser etching will only be done on new OCE orders - no help right now for etching our existing eyewear.

Also, you can place an order over the phone to utilize your free laser etching certificate (and, of course, your gift card) - that's what I did with mine.
