Has anyone ever swapped or at least "popped" out the lenses in the Spike?

I was wondering about that myself. I'm too afraid to try it to mine though.

I haven't done it myself. But I was visiting the Hollywood O-store and they said the Spike OCP was the most annoying to pop the lenses in. They mentioned they can spend 20 minutes sometimes trying to get the lenses in.

a lady that i worked with tried swapping some some spike lenses. yeah she creased them 4 times trying to get them in. as much as i hate to be without some of my Oakley's, i would rather send them off and make the issues somebody else's responsibility

Word had it that even Oakley (employees) mangled more than enough frames installing/swapping lenses when it was added to OCE.

Now go home and get your shine box.

they used to be OCE but were removed because they were so difficult to do. we had a guy that wanted polarized lenses on a ti frame 4 of us at Paramus O store tried to do them and we screwed up a fair amount of lenses attempting to, i think it was the dumbest idea corporate ever came up with.

Indeed!

I finally got it figured out at one point, but we still returned them because the only time we could sell them in OCE was when I was in!

It's really a question of alignment. Once you got the alignment right, it honestly takes 2 seconds, no longer than a MD or GC. But people try to secure one corner deeply anchored, and then it's armaggedon when the times comes to put the other corners in.

But to answer the primary question: yes, it's doable. You just gotta let your feminine side (i.e. delicate and methodical) take over for a minute!

If I send my Spike frame in to corporate HQ, will they put black polarized lenses in them for me (if I request it, of course)?

Other Spike-ish related news is that apparently the Spike lens is VERY close to fitting into a Hijinx. So some fair possibilities for some decent Hijinx lenses are out there - if just a bit of dremel work is needed for the right fit.

doubt it unless you pop the original lenses out...

Josh, that is exactly what I plan on doing since I got these used matte black/grey Spikes for such a cheap price, and I have no sunnies with black polarized yet, I thought I'd give it a try.

worth a shot...I am looking into some others similar since Hijinx has boring colors available for the lenses. Not too many options though..Keep us posted bro

Tony2win told me that a radar range lens fits the hijinx.
I think he tried to cut a fire lens for his art chantrys,

Which if true would be awesome to have hydrophobic lenses for Hijinxs

Anyone want to investigate. and if it works, wanna cut a lens for me.....?

I just popped the grey lenses out of my matte black Spike last night and it was pretty much a breeze. I know that getting lenses in will be a different story though. Hopefully you will all be surprised by the custom Spike I am going to build. (keep your fingers crossed!)

Have fun. there is one thing about a hydro lens none of us took into consideration....IT IS HYDROPHOBIC!!! Sharpie outlines are a thing of the past, tape won't stick, and you will certainly risk scratches with a bare lens...Trust me, I tried it...
