Looks too dark to be H.I. Persimmon, more like the Blue Iridium that comes in M Frames, RJ, etc. Can you compare it to your Matte Clear / Blue Straight Jacket?
VR28 Blue maybe, if not HI Pers. VR28 Blue would be, well a VR28 base and if it's Persimmon it's a brighter orange. Current Blue is like the classic M blue, Amber based (more yellow), but the Iridium is not as purple as the above picked lens. I don't think it's Blue Ir. What I wonder is how new is that lens (like very new), it has the new Zero/Modern RazorBlade/SI M-Frame nosepiece that I have yet to see on regualr Ms.
Your right the old blue iridium had a yellowish green base. The new blue has the VR28, G30ish base. They made 2 lenses with same Blue Iridium title. If you look at my M Frame and Radar collection I have both represented there. I always thought that they should have distinguished the 2 lenses, by naming the 2nd gen blue something else.
If you look at my White Chrome Radar they are completely different then the orginally titled Blue Iridium, which was a finish also common on the zero and sub zero glasses of the past.
I think Phil is right in discription, but oakley still titles this lens blue iridium.
There is a VR28 Blue Iridium, but it is polarized. Which can be found on the Big Square Wire. To my knowledge I never heard of this lens being made for the M Frame line and sold to the public. But hell oakley is changing things all the time.
What are the numbers at the top of the lens? This should help you identify it.
Thanks for the feedback. I got a couple of these as some DE stock at a outlet store. I compared the m-frame lens against the old blue iridium lenses from my matte clear/blue iridium Straight Jackets (which have since been cut into a Splice) - and they do seem to match up spot on.
The m-frame lenses all seem to have the o icon and z87+s etching on the top edge - like we have seen on some other lenses. The birthdate of them all seem to be in 9/06.
That's what passes for blue iridium these days?!!? I've got a few different blue iridium lenses (a couple of e-wire 1.0, some OOE and OO square and some Juliets) and nothing is anything like those lenses! There's quite a difference between the e-wire 1.0 and the Juliets but nothing like as much as between all of them and the ones in this thread.
Yeah when I started buying them I wasn't pleased. I was a HUGE fan of the first Gen Blue Iridium M frame Lenses. In fact I have owned 5 pairs in heaters, 2 in sweeps and 3 in strikes over the years. I lost one heater (My lens style of choice for m frames) and scratched the other. It took me 8 years to wear my last pair and that only happened after I bought 2 (which makes 5 total) more brand new backups last year. This is one lens that only comes out on SPECIAL occassions. Finding one in mint condition is a hunt in itself. Bring alot of water and a sherpa... This lens is my absolute favorite! After that, it is postive red. Oddly enough, they are 2 of the hardest lenses to keep scratch free. The coating on these 2 back in the day, were a nightmare.
That being said, it took some time to grow into this newest representive of the Blue Iridium. They have finally made my list of favorites. The blue can Pop or drop to the background, depending on lighting conditions and the angle you are viewing them from. After painstakingly comparing these to my other lenses, they look the closest to a persimmon tint base, with a heavy coat of Blue Iridium. Like HI Persimmon PLUS!
They look best on my Washington Huskie purple M Frame. You have to see them to appreciate this colorway combo. These blue lenses are not photogenic and can have a now you see me, now you don't appearence, with the exception of one colorway. White! Either in white chrome or pearl these beauties sparkle. Just ask the Radar owners of this white chrome eyeware combo. They are magical and illusive. Like a temptress, you test yourself in her secrets.
The next time your in your local store, give these lenses a chance under a wide variety of lighting conditions. This may not influence you into buying them, but I think you will come to like there place in the Oakley arsenal, as I have.
