I was wondering if anyone out there has tried or successfully painted an R/C car body in an Oakley scheme? Maybe FP will know Or The_Real_Deal since HPI is across the street from them...I was going to do something and try to get a Copper effect like the copper pennys to see how it would look...

see that is decals though, I am going to airbrush one using paint mask vinyl and make the decla masks on my cutter...Like a scatter skull across the hood onto a fender, and static on painted on a rear window, or somehting along those lines..

I just wasn't sure if anyone has done one, or if anyone from HQ had images of something done from the guys at HPI to see how or what worked...I like the decal idea, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't sure of some of the detail crazy fanatics out there had painted any like the custom RJ's Yoko did up...Just checking

The 'Scotty Cannon' scheme that HPI used in their ads years ago was done using a special RC transparent glue where you glue the pic to the inside of the body and then paint over it....try XXX-Main for the glue.

I have seen that stuff before but never have tried it...I haven't seen the hpi ads but if they used a Cannon pattern, must have been nice. I am going to try my hand at airbrushing a mini body for my RC18T and will cut some masks and shoot it. I have some sick paints, but was really looking to get a copper paint (alclad doesn't have one for the lexan bodies, or at least I couldn't find it) and do something in a mirror copper...I will post it once I have knocked it out...Maybe tomorrow...

this summer i m paiting my golf and tunning it up a bit .....an i was thinking i ll get some sweet decals on it.....

i thought a nice icon onthe back window,,,,

i m still thinking about the sides

and a huge monster dog in the hood....

so when i ll finish with it the car will look brand new and with all the decals will actually look like an oakley car .... now i was thinking ......... is it legal to do that? i wont be steping on anybodies toes?

What gen Golf do you have? I have been a huge VW nut until recently. That new MKIV Jetta just didn't do it for me. I do like the new GTI though. I would think painting it would be okay, but you just never know. I know a custom paint shop around my area that did a huge custom green Avalanche in a Hot Wheels theme and it was sick. They approached him to use the vehicle at events for them as promo, but they expected him to be at their beckon call, so it never happened, but i don't think they gave him any grief over it...Good luck

it is a 95 golf right now it has a 1.8 engine on but this summer after i get the body done nicely i ll try to see if i can get a vr6 to pun on it although that would mean to hange all the engine suports .....

i want to make it black( i m still debating over polished black or mate black) and i ll get some huge good quality decals i m not sure what i ll put on the sides yet but i know for sure i want a huge monster dog on the hood....

i wan just oncerned that they might say i m using the brand and stuff...

but in the worse case i d be making publicity for them soo.... i hope no one will get offended....

yeah I hear ya...Get a good MKIII VR6 so you can tweak it more, or a solid MKIV VR6 (which is what I had)...I know the MKIII had more available since it wasn't OBD2 and you have access to many of the world's best tuners in Canada. Check Momentum Motorsports up there...They held the world record for the fastest VR6 last I recall...

Okay, here goes nothing...My first attempt at painting an R/C car body in an Oakley scheme...I made custom colors to keep it real. Mind you all on thing, this is an 1/18th scale Mini T body, so it's small. The body is the Losi Baja Beetle. Colors are as follows:

1) Base is Black
2) Skulls are a custom color I blended to look as much like X Metal as I could get. It took 3 colors to get this.
3) Eyes, Hood O, and mini flames are a blend also to simulate + Red Iridium and you have to see it in person to get the effect. It is a transparent pearl red with a pearl blue behind it, so it changes depending on light and angle.
4) Large flames are a transparent pearl green backed with a charcoal pearl to give me an Emerald Iridium color (more like Emerald Slate).

Keep in mind, the skulls are only about 1.25" tall, and about 3.6" wide from skull to flame tip, so this stuff is really small. I still need to trim it, but it isn't too bad for a 1st attempt. I designed the masks in my SIgnlab program welding the static skull and flames together, and cut it all on my vinyl plotter/cutter. I think the next one will be a retro throw back with fluorescents and splatter...

Great job, seeing pale colours like that on a glossy black paint gives a nice contrast. It also gave me ideas for inspirations I needed for a future custom. Thanks !

now I am working on the hummer hut body, but trying to find what actually works for it's odd shapes...want to do a camo pattern, but have nothing. I guess I could develop one from the jet or truck pix. I did make a transfer from the Mad Scientist image on the Penny coin which may be the grounds for the next one...

here is my newest addition. Was going to mess with the mad scientist, but decided to keep it simple and clean. The truck is a Team Losi Aftershock, and the body is a Pro Line Chevy Silverado HD Crew Cab...I tried to use flames as close to the ones on the Dodge Oakley Truck as possible. It actually has a blue pearl spakle over the pearl white, but my sunlight was limited from clouds, so you can't really see it without direct light. As I mentioned, the base is pearl white with the sparkle blue pearl in it, the skull has pearl purple edges with key lime pearl faded into the center. The flames use the same colors, but I created teh drop shadow in the purple with the body of the flames in the Key Lime pearl. I back coated it all with faskoat to keep the fuel from damaging it, and also cut clear vinyl on my machine to make protectors where the body mounts (on both sides), and made protectors for the inside lower edges also.

Thanks bro...well, I have had that body for nearly 3 months, so I felt it necessary to get off my a$& and just paint it. Still learning the art of slinging paint too!! Don't feel bad about neglecting them, I just got the parts tonight to fix my other 3 trucks my son keeps tearing up!!! I think I am going to start making paint masks and throw them on ebay...
