I just got the new White Stripes LP "Icky Thump" and I love this CD. I liked the first CD's from them very much but "Get behind me satan", their last CD, sounded very revamped to me. But this one is awesome, again!

I really hope they decide to really put out a coutnry CD , I like their few country songs and the projects Jack White worked on. F.e. "you don't know what love is" on the new CD is an great country-ish song. Now I need to check Era Vulgaris, but what I heard so far didn't leave a good feeling.

soo... Interpol's Our Love To Admire came out last week, and exactly a week later Editors' An End Has A Start came out today. and like every introspective depressed Indie snob (like me!), i will be comparing the two records very meticulously!

other recent stuff... umm, The Bravery's new one, Kaiser Chiefs, Travis (which i mentioned a few posts ago), some other stuff i forget right now.

Digging this thread out...

Anyone who's spoken to me in the chat probably knows I'm a fan of Kanye West. His 'Graduation' album came out two weeks ago and I picked it up. I've listened to a lot and think it's a great album. Although it seems to me his raps aren't as elaborate as on his other albums, sonically there's some really interesting things going on. There's a lot of texture and subtle nuances in many of the tracks that only reveal themselves after a while.

I'm a Steely Dan fan too, so it was cool to hear the Kid Charlemagne sample in 'Champion'. Becker and Fagen are notorious for not allowing samples so I wonder how Kanye managed to get clearance for this one. Was it simply enough money?

Some people think it is not nearly as strong as his other two albums. I am not convinced - it's different, and shorter (there are no skits, thankfully), and it's a real solid piece of work. Has anyone else been listening to it?

New Foo Fighters hit this week. I had an advance a few weeks back and have been spinning it since. A fantastic rock album.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before. I stopped just in time before I started a whole new thread for this when I remembered that everything has its own place at the O review.

i'm listening to Radiohead's new one right now, In Rainbows; downloaded it from their site earlier today... so far so good. it's a fairly cohesive album, not as haphazard as Hail To The Thief, not as claustrophobic as Amnesiac.

upon first listen one would notice how sparse and minimal it sounds... it's mixed with very prominent bass and drums, and with lots of reverb and echo, almost like what Martin Hannet did for Joy Division.

nice to see "Nude (Big Ideas)" finally get a legit studio version after 10 years of appearing on their setlists in concerts. "Bodysnatchers" and "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" can easily be great radio singles. so far "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" is my pick of the album but that may change after a few listens.

oh, and damn them for releasing only 160kb/s mp3's! c'mon, how about some higher bitrates... at least 256kb/s, sheesh. i tossed them a few bucks for it but then again i won't feel guilty because they'll get proper money from me when i buy the physical CD anyway.

Nice song! I was wondering that (Muse? *lol) sounds pretty T-Painy when I heard it in Heroes.

At the Moment I enjoy the latest LP from the White Stripes which is awesome again (after the imo lame Get behind me satan). On The Raconteurs are also some pretty nice songs and the latest Tool LP is also something to hear again and again.

But my Top 2 LP's at the moment are

Tiger Army - Music From Regions Beyond
First single - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX9rg2bnFno
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYC9G0_vdww

If you like the song - they have some more, pretty good lp's!

Talib Kweli - Eardrum

Best HipHop LP for a long time imo. Great beats, it really has a context and lyrics (not just....SUPERMAN...) and awesome features (Norah Jones f.e.).

Bong,
Also a HUGE Radiohead fan. Been listening to the album none stop since the 10th. Excellent stuff! I have to agree with you on pretty much everything you said especially bit rate/sound quality. I pre-ordered the box set (2 cd's and 2 lp's) December seems a loooooong ways away.

Very cool band I discovered a few days ago, just ordered their cd. They have a great web site wich they did sound recordings in the nature with a clip for each song, you can watch a sample of each one.
