sorry if its a dumb question but what is a safehouse edition? ive never heard of them. - LEX7
From an Olympic standpoint, Safehouses were an Oakley venue they created for the athletes to go to outside of the Olympic Village where they can relax, mingle, eat/drink, and celebrate. It was a safe space for them to get away to. I believe they go back as far as Sydney, AUS in 2000. I have a keychain that says "Safe House" and has two phone numbers on one side, and the shape of AUS with an Oakley logo, and "Games '00" inside on the other. I'm sure Steve Blick was there handing out glasses to athletes.
At later Olympics, maybe as early as Vancouver, CAN in 2010, while athletes were there, they could just happen to get some special glasses made up in a wide range of colors. What made them different from OCP is that they were matte colors. They are also limited in the number of Oakley logos that can be on them, so for example, Fast Jackets, don't have the Oakley across the bridge. For Radar/XL, RadarLock/XL, and M Frames, the lenses did not include the Oakley logo. I don't think any of the Polarized lenses included the note on the bottom corner of the lens.
That I know of, I believe the following models were included
M Frames - limited - I've only seen a few examples, don't personally own any
Radar/Radar XL - Most common - have multiple in regular and straight stems
RadarLock/RadarLock XL - Most common - have multiple pair
Jawbones - limited - don't personally own any, but I see them in collections
Fast Jackets - Common - I own a few pair
There might be other models out there, but I believe these cover it.
For the 2012 Olympics in London, the colors were made to match up to the London Tube System. Starting at Sochi, Oakley started to step away from these SafeHouse edition glasses. Limited models were available in Sochi Green, but they were athlete exclusives. Brazil went went with the Green Fade, and began the trend of the colors being available to consumers. Harmony Fade was used for Korea, and then Kokuro Spin for Tokyo. I haven't heard anything yet about anything special for China coming up later this year.
