Hi everyone,

My name is Jeroen (Jay for non-Dutch :)) and I have been an Oakley enthousiast for decades.
I bought my first Oakley (e-wire) when I was around 16 for the absurd price of $299. Around the time that the X-metal Mars was released also. 27 years later I still have it (the e-wire, not the Mars unfortunately :() in used but pretty good shape; including the original box with the metal "plate" that closed the inner box.

My first e-mailadres was oakley1242@hotmail.com (and the 1242 was, as far as I can recall the number where the original HQ was situated; I even had a black Oakley baseball cap with 1242 embroidered on the back) Hence my nickname; a sort of tribute to that :)

Since recently I decided to dig up all the Oakleys I have and put them in a nice original Oakley showcase and show them in stead of let them catch dust. Due to the fact I was a prescription glass wearer the collection isn't that impressive (yet) but still I'm glad it is up for display.

Because of that I scoured the internet for parts and how-to's and came across o-review a lot of times and it has been my go-to site to check models and tips.

I'm really curious at all the enthusiasts here, and probably impressed by the collections.

With kind regards,

Jeroen (Jay)

Great writeup, and welcome. Jim Jannard dropped by way back in the early years of the forum and revealed that 1242 was essentially a random number that he made up, but then became part of the Oakley lore. Some theorized that 12:42 was the sun's strongest point of the day, but apparently the truth was underwhelming.

Hope to see some photos of your collection. Look forward to it.

Hey Dann,

Thanks for the reply ... nice to hear about 1242 ... it has been my go to 4-digit number for ages, but with a wrong assumption :D

When I'm a bit more confident in finding my way around here I will certainly post some pics of my collection.

Hi Jeroen! It sounds like you're in the right place. There is always room for more stories and history here, and there is plenty of room for prescription models as well.
