Generation 2 broken picture from Instagram - O_taj1242

It’s only been a couple of months, that should be warrantied, no?

That blue one appears to be a team USA Kith pair as well. That would be a painful one to deal with knowing what those are selling for.

Maybe the recent prices increases were for the extra glue added to the new production runs?

It seems like they've raised the price on quite a few styles.

Everything has gone up in price all over the world. Corona has definitely impacted prices.

Not to resurrect this post but apparently they have released a new version that fixes the arms falling off. Instead of gluing them they have redesigned it to have the lens snap into the arm.

Curious to know if the glasses fundamentally look the same as the original ones? Also, wonder how the lens snaps into the arms?

Took a page from the Re:subzero?

They actually look a bit different. Initially the arm and the lens were flush so the lens seamlessly transitioned into the arm. Now the arm kinda sticks out beyond the lens.

Yes, they decided to launch KATO's new snap inset frame earlier this year

This was my biggest hesitation for getting a pair as well. I am happy with my Encoders so this is good news to me.

My Sapphire Kato fell apart in 30 minutes of wear time, traded it in for store credit.

My Gold Kato is going good but I know it'll never stand the test of time. Even if the glue holds the stem will just fall off when the iridium peels.

I'm surprised that these passed QC during testing/R&D. Or should I not be? Not saying anything against Oakley because if I wasn't a fan I wouldn't be here - just wondering how these could be "approved" when this has happened this often.

Also, when did the updated design start hitting stores and o.com? As crazy as it sounds - as I mentioned earlier - I would actually really like to have one before and after pair just for the sake of the aesthetics of the original design and then for a pair to actually have to wear more often.

I have six Katos and haven’t had a problem yet. But I too am wanting to replace them all with the new version. Hehe

Thanks MicahS and O_taj1242 for the pics! This new design/update isn't reflected in any of the pics of the Kato on Oakley's site.

Glad to hear you haven't had issues!

Ha Ha! I hear ya - new versions/updated versions are tempting. It's kinda one of the banes of my existence. I'm usually more than happy to have the original but a lot of the time I feel like I'm missing out not grabbing the updated version as well. Although in this case with the issues the Kato has been having it is a more justifiable reason for getting the updated version. Well, at least you have some of the originals. Now you just need the new version - you're halfway there to the "before and after."

Do we know if there is anything different on the sku to distinguish the the old from the new mounting options? Anyone see the Tour De France model if it has the new hinges?

The new version has the letter M added to the SKU

According to o.com the Tour Kato is: OO9455-1749

So I'm thinking as of right now it doesn't have the redesigned mounting.

It should be the new version. I think the added M is just for the colors that were around for befor the change.
