I hope not...dude what is the deal with this retro square stuff...I dunno guys - I'll say it again -

I WANT INNOVATION!! I want industrial, different, unique...something that stands out and not everyone has....if I wanted to look like everyone else - I'd shop at the Gap...(are those stores still around?)...the Buckle!

I dont like retro looking shades.

I agree with Nik: Give me Innovation.

If I want something like the Gascan I would buy Dragon models, as they have plenty of them...

I am not an Oakley purist, I would not wait for them to make a model that looks like another model from a different company.

I totally agree. For a company that defines itself as "defying conventional thinking", I really haven't seen a lot of that kind of thinking lately. Looks like the designers at Oakley are more comfortable taking already existing designs, slapping an O on them, then expecting everyone to buy them. What they should be doing is what they preach to the world, inventing new sh*t!! What was their old motto: Driven To Purpose Beyond Reason? Now, it's Fashion Since Yesterday. Did I miss something somewhere? When did a company so against regularity and conventional thinking decide that it was time to be like everyone else? Did they just give up or sell out? Even beautiful designs like Romeo 2 seem to have a touch of fashion influence. But don't get me wrong, I love Romeo 2's, mostly because the fashion element isn't overly noticeable or overdone. Just don't expect to see me in Riddle's or any other nonsense like that. I know that what I've said is kinda harsh, so if you're a huge O fan who believes that the company can do no wrong, then disregard everything I've said. I'm just saying that some fashion stuff is OK, just don't change the whole company around it. Holy sh*t I had a lot to say.

I agree, Jamey. I'm not a fan of Oakley's newest fashion-oriented releases, either. On the flip side, if Oakley wants to grow, they'll need to attract a bigger segment of the market. In terms of sunglasses, I don't think "Driven To Purpose Beyond Reason" by itself is something that appeals to most women. Fashion, however, does.

I don't mind the "Fashion since Yesterday" stuff if there's an equal amount of "Driven To Purpose Beyond Reason". We'll see in a few years if fashion has completely overtaken Oakley, or if they've found that balance.

Yeah, I agree on the women/fashion thing. Oakley is expanding it's appeal to women, so the fashion stuff is natural from that point of view. But even in the men's apparel, the look of the pictures have a fashion runway look, which I don't really like. And some of the new men's apparel itself is more geared to what's "in" in fashion. Like all the trucker caps all of a sudden.

I couldn't agree with you more Jamey. But of course Oakey is making the turn down fashion road to increase sales. So I sure we'll see more fashion oriented frames and less innovative futuristic frames in the years to come.
My biggest concern with Oakley going down this path is there are already alot of companies like Smith Optics doing the same thing with fashion frames. And to me a company like Smith gives the customer more bang for the buck. Smith has a lifetime warrany on all there frames now plus there frames come with a carrying case and their less expense.
Hopefully the top brass at Oakley will put more thought into what their doing and find a way to combined fashion and innovation in to their sunglasses. And having there sunglasses come with a carrying case wouldn't hurt too.

I think that they should release the fashion stuff under the new icon style and stretch logo and keep to the static skull and static/original icon for the more experimental stuff

While I am a fan of the more fashion-based Oakleys (because if I'm or people are going to buy a more fashion-y type of sunglass, I'd rather it be Oakley than another brand) I do think what they should is maybe create a sub-brand for either the Fashion line or the Mad Science line. But that's because I am a O fan.

The strongest and most valuable thing Oakley has is its brand, so whether its Plates or Riddles, if they both carry the O on the temple they both carry the promise of high quality eyewear. If they create a sub brand, people might perceive them to not be as good as 'normal' Oakleys.

Good idea, Ford, although I was thinking more of a sub-category, just so it doesn't seem like a whole new brand. And you make a good point. If I did buy or wear a pair of aviators or shields, I'd rather them be Oakley than anything else. I don't mind some of the new fashion-oriented sunglasses (Crosshair and Dartboard), I just don't like the overall look and direction the company is headed in. It's just too much fashion for me all at once.
