Are there any film prop collectors out there? I’ve always appreciated the hobby but have not gotten too deep into it due to the sheer cost of good items.
One of the big names out there is John Azarian. He owns a whack of amazing stuff, including the screen-used X-men Juliet glasses and the visor, which of course he got from PropStore London:
I don’t have much stuff, but I have managed to get the X-men 1 Visor and X-men 2 Penny props directly from Oakley, even though it isn’t screen used. I have a couple Oakley glassses that were used in the filming of the 2004 Punisher movie, some SI boots from the filming of GI Joe. Some other misc small items from random movies.
The rest is licensed stuff like lifesize busts, prop weapons like Hellboy’s Samaritan, Captain America shield, etc.
The Marvel Netflix auction items are now viewable.
It is sold by one of the bigger and reputable movie prop auction houses, Prop Store. As some will recall, they sold one of the several screen-used Oakley Juliet from the X-men movie as well as the Cyclops visor:
I’ve been sporadically watching the Marvel Netflix auctions. Some interesting stuff. $55-65k for the Daredevil costumes, $2.4k for Elektra’s sais, $11.5k for DD’s cowl, plus these:
As I’ve noted a few times, Prop Store is one of the bigger forces in the sci fi movie/screen used prop hobby. My first post in this thread was of the X-men visor and Juliet they sold that was used in the film’s production and had proper provenance (not some wild ass dubious claim on an eBay auction like the one we saw earlier in the year).
They recently had a big auction for some iconic pieces. Star Wars and Back to the Future did predictably well, but I was surprised by some Ghostbusters bidding. The highlights for me:
