Frame: Black
Lens: Grey (Original), Black Iridium (Current)

I'll admit that when I was looking for my first pair of Oakley sunglasses last year I was looking for the Splinter 2.0 in black/black. When I saw the Whiskers in black/grey sitting in the display case at Dillard's, they had an appeal to them that stood out among the Half-Jackets and M-Frames also sitting there. After trying them on and feeling the fit, I made the purchase and had my first pair of name-brand glasses for Christmas. Now, almost a year later, I have some thoughts.

The Whiskers are light, not too heavy. The black frame looks great with almost any type of dress style and feels very sturdy. There is very nice eye coverage, I don't suffer from reflections from the inside of the lens and I can wear them for hours without the grip of the earstems hurting the sides of my head like countless other pairs of off-the-rack sunglasses found at gas stations or other stores. Overall, these have made a great starter pair for my Oakley addiction (to the consternation of my wife).

My pair of Whiskers originally came with the Dark Grey lenses. On a flight out of town, I had to take them off my head to pass through airport security and TSA would not allow me to put them back in the micro-bag. Long story short, the lenses suffered severe scratching and I wasn't reimbursed for the damage. While on the trip I ordered a pair of Black Iridium lenses to replace the Grey ones and had them refitted (note - authorized Oakley dealers should carry replacement lens sets, but that's just me). It's what Lenscrafters noticed during the refitting that has me giving the Whiskers a 4 instead of a 5 (I really would give it a 4.5, but site doesn't do halfs, so 4 will have to work).

Over the course of daily wear, the frame had spread to the point that I could barely feel the earsocks on the side of my head and they felt extremely loose on my head. Also the earstems had originally been nice and tight-fitting, but had loosened to where they swung freely like a cheap pair of $10 WalMart sunglasses, not a pair of Oakleys that retailed for almost $200. Lenscrafters re-tightened the earstems to new, but the frame still felt wider than it had when I bought them. Shortly after that, something happened with the right earstem that when they were closed it pointed almost straight down. I sent them in and Oakley replaced the frame under warranty. I don't wear the sunglasses pushed over the brim of a hat ever, so I'm not sure what caused the frame to feel pushed out and the earstems to loosen.

On the current frame, the earstems are starting to feel a little loose, but nowhere near where the original frames were at. Maybe the original had been tried on several times as compared to the factory frame that replaced it. My next chance I'll be stopping by Lenscrafters to have them looked at and maybe adjusted.

Despite my long-winded writing, I have been extremely pleased with my Whiskers. They stand out among the crowd without being too ostentatious. My wife refers to them as Secret Service Shades due to the jet black lenses in them now. I'll admit to originally planning to black out the Icons on the temples, but under threat of spousal retribution I have thought better of it. Plus I just can't bring myself to attempt to modify these in any way other than the lens change done by a professional.

Next on my O-target list: X-Metal/Ruby Juliets.

Frame: Platinum
Lens: Gold Iridium

These are my first oak's and the pair that started my whole O-diction. I saw these and was immediately in love. Very understated, and classy looking, yet totaly oakley. Fit is great, coverage is very good, and they look good on me. The C5 frame is nice and light (I can only imagine the ti frame) yet strong, not flimsy feeling at all. Despite being so thin at points they have a very solid feel.

Gold Iridium has become one of my favorite lenses so far. I live in the Seattle area and they are great for overcast or bright days. It is also a great driving lens, good contrast.

I have the whisker to thank for introducing me to the world of oakley. Before I owned a pair of oak's I just didn't know what I was missing. It was like night and day, my eyes have been opened! (and properly protected :^)

Frame: Titanium Pewter
Lens: +Red Iridium

Combining classic aesthetics of an A-Wire-shaped lens with a sleek, ultra-thin frame results in a winning combination: the Whisker. This particular pair features a pure titanium frame, making these ultra-lightweight glasses even lighter, and the +Red lenses showcase excellent color contrast with the dark frame. Although the lenses are similar to the shape of the A-Wire, they offer expanded coverage, including the periphery. Personally, I would have liked to have seen spring-hinges on the frames for added durability, although many would disagree since the frame is extremely thin and relatively flexible.

Lens: Dark Grey

Just got these today and I can tell they're keepers. Extremely comfortable and lightweight, and they just scream "class!" Dark Grey's probably my new favorite tint; great for indoors and out. Couldn't be happier with 'em.

I don't know why this frame isn't more popular, but it comes with my highest recommendation.

Frame/Lens: Ti Pewter/+Red Iridium; Pewter/OO Black Iridium Polarized (replacement lenses); Black Chrome/G30 Iridium; Pewter/Emerald Iridium Polarized

The pair which have ended up as Pewter/OO BIP were the second pair of Oakleys I ever bought, after my first pair (E-wire 2.1s) broke and I needed a pair of glasses to use while they were being repaired. They were originally 'normal' Black Iridium Polarized, but after they got dropped onto gravel a new pair of lenses were ordered through my optician and due to a mistake they got the OOBIP instead. A serendipitous error! The Whisker has pretty wide wraparound lenses, but they're not all that deep so there is a fair bit of light leakage around the top edge. The normal frame feels pretty strong and quite lightweight, the arms are quite stiff but there is a bit of 'give' in the frame as a whole which makes them quite adaptable and comfortable. The Ti frames are insane - ridiculously light, but also quite a bit more springy than the normal ones and (unfortunately) almost impossible to adjust because of the Titanium's metal memory. You bend them - they spring back. Other than that, Whiskers are a solid pair of glasses and their popularity is obvious by the sheer number of colour combinations they've been produced in. I've worn my (understated) OO BIP pair to a wedding with a suit, and they're equally at home slobbing around or walking the dogs. They're also my favourite driving glasses - the OO Black Iridium Polarized is a superb driving lens in my opinion, I can get in the car and drive nonstop for 3 or 4 hours even late into the twilight with these on and get out at the other end with no eyestrain. The Emerald Polarized lenses are another favourite - restful to wear, particularly in the lightweight Whiskers, but a lot more eyecatching. One point deducted because of the shallowness of the orbital, but really they're a great pair of glasses.

I love how these glasses fit. They don't move around and they look pretty sharp on my face. Eventually I'm going to put rx lenses in these frames and use them as my everyday glasses when I'm not wearing my contacts.

Frame: Brown(x2), Pewter
Lens: Bronze Polarized, Exovista Medieval, +Red Iridium

By far, my favorite of the O's. Light, comfortable, aggressive yet sophisticated. I have a fairly wide head, wide enough for Inmates, just too short a face to pull them off. In spite of the "larger" size the Whisker, they are still a little snug. I give them only a 4 rating due to the thin and light frame being a little more fragile then other wires. That said, I took a 2"x5" steel beam to my right eye without permanent damage to the frames but did require new lenses and a bit of tweaking to fit right again. I also had a pair of squares but traded them for my Batwolf

Frame: Gold
Lens: Bronze Iridium

Great pair of classy sunglasses. I use these for civilian wear. I must admit that, while the look extremely classy, they don't look too rugged. I've gotten tons of compliments and the golf "o" icons stand out, especially in the sun. The lenses are great for contrast and the unobtanium allows for a more secure fit.

Frame: Silver
Lens: Black Iridiam Polarized

Had these for a while now and I must say they look okay but overall are quite poor. The coverage is poor, and the ear socks have been loose since day one. For some reason they also expand over time so I had to cut them down to fit in the same area.

Frame: Ti
Lens: Tungesten Irid Polarized

These are the best glasses I own. I like them more than my nanos or juliets. Featherweight and fits my face perfectly. Little to comment on, because they are perfection. I should probably buy a couple pairs more just in case I lose these...

Pros : very stylish, easy-going sunglasses

Cons : the coverage isn't too generous, tight fit but a little loose on nose/center (maybe because I'm Asian..^^)

Frame: Brown
Lens: VR50 to Brown Transition

Great shades a stylish design and definately more mens style although a brave lady could get away with them too. They remind me a bit of the Rayban sidestreet Predators.(very popular fashionable semi rectabgular frame shape). They are remarkably great quality when compared to any roadhouse cheapies. The frame is flexable to some degree but still very rigid and solid. The brown frame looks very smart in a metalic dark copper color. The VR50 to brown Transition Lenses are great performers and a smart match for the frame. Mine adjust without much trouble. Although there is a minor delay in them but mainly when coming back to indoors from bright outdoor. They are remarkable to obserb as you go outside in mid summer and they go from a 50% transmission to 10% and hide my eyes, But indoors they about half show the eyes. Great Overall and a very snart and cool combo.

Frame: Titanium
Lens: Titanium Iridium

Fantastic pair of glasses. I love the lightness of the titanium frames and only slightly wish that they came in a darker color with the Ti Ir lenses. Actually I think black chrome would be perfect. The fit and coverage is ideal for my medium size noggin and they are comfortable as well. Overall, one of the best O's I own and that's saying quite a bit. Works for both beach and business. Solid.

Frame: Pewter

I bought these thinking that they were the A-Wires. I was in a hurry, and I had my first student loan to spend on stuff other than school. I was disappointed with my mistake, but I'm happy with the glasses.

Frame: titanium
Lens: titanium iridium

A great looking pair of glasses. The titanium lenses give the lenses a near perfect mirror look to make them a quite aggressive looking pair of shades. The wrap and coverage of the lenses are unbeatable and the weight of the titanium frame is definitely worth the extra money. I would strongly recommend these glasses for anyone to looking for classy pair.

Frame: Pewter
Lens: Light Grey Transition

Got a pair of these while spending a vacation in UAE. Four months since, I'm quite happy about them. The Transition lenses work extremely well in bright southern sunshine as well as in unpredictably cloudy summer in Russia. I know that this kind of lenses won't last forever, but that's fine with me. Great for bicycling and everyday use.

Sure I like the lens shape, the cool yet composed and stylish look of the wire, and the way it fits on one's head. Perfect for me, Whiskers may happen to be a bit wide for you, so be sure to try them on and take your time.

I bought the Matte Black w/ Black Iridium Polarized prescription lenses (300/300). I am very happy with the result. This pair is definitely a head turner. The tint is deep enough to make me wince in the sunlight now when I forget to wear them outside. Yet, I can use them in low light areas as well, like in the subway, though just barely, i.e. avoid running into people.

The only issues I've encountered are that at first it slipped down my nose (need an Asian fit for the wire frames), but with a firm squeeze on the nose pads, it's a lot better. I barely notice I'm wearing them sometimes, and my indoor glasses are Silhouettes.

My lenses are thicker on the wrap-around periphery, I assume b/c of the prescription. It took several days for my vision to adjust, but it feels mostly natural now. I take them camping tomorrow!

Frame: Polished Black
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized

THE... BEST... WIRES... EVER. I have had so many pairs of wire framed Oakleys and this is by far my favorite pair. All the way through the alphabet starting at A-Wires, the lens shape of these fit better then anything I've ever warn by Oakley. If they weren't so tight, I'd forget they were even on sometimes - the lens covers just the right amount of lighting necessary while not having the "ring look" of the frame around them like Eye Jackets. These will either get broken or stolen for me to get rid of them in this lifetime!
OAKLEY RAIDER -
Frame: Brown
Lens: Bronze Polarize

I really like this style & color combination. The only issue w/ this model is the fact that it does not cover my eyes completely. The Whisker only covers a portion of the eye. For example, I like for the lens to cover up the eyebrows. When I put them on, my eyebrows are really visible & light has enough room to get through. When you put up the frame to cover them up. it feels like you left the whole bottom portion exposed. Other than that it's a great looking frame. If that is something that won't bother you. This frame would be a great addition to your collection.

I really like these glasses. They are my favorite pair of oakley wires currently on the market. They are very light weight and comfortable. The provide plenty of coverage and are stylish as well. Good glasses for all day wear.

Frame: Titanium
Lens: Positive Red Iridium

These are absolutley amazing!

When I first saw them I had to have a double take, cause lets face it Positive Red, as cool of a lense as it is, its being used less and less - thankfully we are seeing a revival in the New Straight Jackets.

The Titainum frame is also an excellent selling point - very sturdy, especially as this frame model is synonymous with the main feature of it being the lightest in the line up.

The price isn't all that bad either at $205 - you're getting a premium lense paired with a premium frame!

So I'm giving these a strong 5 for Oakley pursuing Positive Red, and giving it more credentials!

I own the Whsikers for a year now and I really love the looks and wearing comfort. But:
It seems that I am the only one, but I am not quite happy with my Whiskers. I hate the reflection on the inside of the lenses. Sometimes I can see my own eye in the lens, especially when the sun shines in between lens and my head. I think this happens because the lenses are quite dark, and they have no treatment against refelctions. If I put the glasss closer to my head my eyelashes hit the lens.

Is there no one else with same findings?

Hardly a giant leap forward, but a well-balanced design which has rapidly become the top-selling Wire (and will doubtless remain so with the Big Square, Square Wire, C-Wire and A-Wire being phased out). The thin stems make for an ultra-lightweight frame, but it's hardly going to stand up to abuse. Works very well as a more dressy Oakley; not so good as a beater pair.

I like these a lot. They have a really nice style to them and the frame is thin and light weight. Eye coverage is really good. I'm surprised that these fit my big head so well. These Whiskers would look very nice Rx.

Frame: Color=Black/Material=Titanium
Lens: Bronze polarized prescription (sunny index=3 transmission= 15%)

Realy nice, perfect wide view, and fits very well on my slightly large head. Gives a perfect view with blue sky or (partally) clowded. Contrast is very good. And of course it looks very nice. Looking at waves in the water with the sun scattering gives some artifical look, as it is digitized or something. This is caused by the polarization filter i suppose, and i'm not sure if this is a normal thing to expect. The only thing worries me is scratching the glasses when cleaning. I'm missing a (wet) cleaning advice other then just using the microfiber cleaning bag. (advice?) Afer the first time cleaning with the bag some i noticed some reflection on the inner side of the glass. Except from some dust particles i'm seeing noting special except a clean glass.
The frame is ultralight, but the prescription lenses make it some heavier as may be expected.
I'm using it now for almost a week, and i'm verry satisfied, except for the scratch worries.

Note: after 5 days i noticed my oakley lenses have problems with colors! When you look at a vertical clear/bright object, and you move your head to left or right, while looking at the object edges, you will notice a blue red shift.
All colors are not bend exactly the same way! When you look good, the effect actually isn't noticable in a small angle when looking just in front of you.
It's the same effect while looking rainbow colors in a prism.... Didn't anyone notice this disturbing effect?
I think the effect is called Chromatic abberation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_aberration
I'm quite a bit disapointed at this part now, and changing the rating to a 4 instead of a 5.

Frame: Black
Lens: Black Iridium

I have a pair of these w/Rx lenses. The reason why I chose this frame for one is well they fit my face perfectly. Other reasons is I like the "simple" look to these. They aren't the most "innovative" looking of the O's but they still look killer. Lens coverage is great and they are lightweight compared to other O's.

I suggest these ONLY if you are looking for everyday sunglasses. If you are looking for something wild and innovative stay clear of these. But since these are my primary Rx sunglasses I didn't want to be wearing anything too crazy looking since I work in corporate district and sometimes have to meet with clients, etc... you know.

I do own a pair of Hatchets that are cool but they are not Rx. Will review those...

Got these for my girlfriend this past x-mas because she wanted a black based lens. I had a gold pair for a while but sold them as they just felt too thin for me. Hopfully will get another pair eventually when the collection is much bigger and I can use them only every now and then because the lens shape is really nice and they are a classy pair of glasses.

Frame: Black
Lens: Black Iridium

i'll have to agree that the overall lens shape does look similar to A Wires, but of course like eveyone says, the lenses are substantially larger in comparison. i find these to not fit too well as my A Wires, i had to fiddle around with the fit and spent a long time adjusting the frame to fit confortably on my face. i like the contrasting O icon on the temple and the thin, sculpted earstems, but wished Oakley would've done something more with the nosebridge. good casual everyday pair but don't expect anything more.
Dann -
Frame: Silver
Lens: Dark Grey

In the push to make a pair lighter and lighter, it is hard to surpass the Whisker. Taking lens cues from the A Wire, the stems have been reduced to almost nothing, and you'd be hard pressed to tell if you are still wearing them, if it weren't for the lens tint.

Despite the light weight, they do not feel fragile, and should withstand some moderate abuse. From a style perspective, they are conservative, but still have an Oakley flair.

finally found some wires that fit! i have a larger head and all of the other wires are too small for my face. the big square is just too damn ugly (in my opinion) and too big. but the whiskers are just right. i wear my whiskers on a daily bases.

one word: awsome

Frame: Pewter
Lens: Black Iridium Polarized RX

Great set of frames, extremely light, got a bit heavy with the RX lenses I put... damn eyesite! But the frame is very very light, great coverage to the side due to the shape of the frame. It sits very well on my face and you really do not notice the weight of the frame and lenses at all. Very well balanced frames.

This is my second pair with RX lenses, 1st pair was the old OO's w/ Blue Iridium RX lenses, very comfortable pair of sunglasses. The Whiskers are a huge difference in terms of overall coverage of the face. This is definately made for the larger heads ;) The Black Iridium Polarized lenses are amazing, very nice tint with the Iridium coating. the Oakley Polarized lenses is awesome, it helps alot especially when driving in the sunset

Frame: Platinum & Brown

Soon as I saw these I had to have a pair.
Loved the a-wire for years but it was a tad small.
These fit perfectly, The Plat / Gold had to go back to Oakley as the lens fell out. For me they are a bit fragile. That aside, the bronze polarised is a cool lens
Edit: The bronze polarised lens also fell out, replaced by O UK no probs but looks like the frame has been re-designed, The lip holding the lens is now wider.

Frame: Platinum

Solid addition to the Wire lineup. While they may be Oakley's "most flexible" ever, they're not the kind of spindly frame that you can wrap around your finger. Rather it's like having spring hinges, but not really. The lenses are a little bit larger than the A-wires so they might favor those with larger heads. Even though they're so thin, they feel durable and they're light enough that you could wear them all day.

Just picked these up today...these are the most comfortable sunglasses I have ever worn. Very light..well not as light as the Why's but after a few minutes I forget they are even on, unlike my X-Metal XX's. I also have a large head and these are still comfortable for me.

Frame: Silver
Lens: Dark Grey

After trying these on a few more times, I changed my opinion of them and actually purchased a pair. The size of the lenses was just larger than I was used to compared to Square Wires or even A-Wires, but the increased coverage is a good thing. I still wish the nosebridge was a little more styled, but the sculpting on the earstems and the embedded icons are still impressive. The earstem shape is somewhat reminiscent of Romeo 2, albeit in a much thinner and less-3D version. These are definitely light compared to older wires, and the inherent flex in the thin frame is a good compromise between non-spring hinges and spring hinges. I'll give these a 4 now.

My original review:

I had high hopes for Whisker, but I don't think I'll get these unless I get a really good deal on a pair. They look quite a bit like A-Wire, but with sculpted earstems and a much thinner frame overall. Also, the nosebridge is very thin and plain, nothing like the classic A/C/E/Sq Wire bridge. The reason I probably won't get them is the size of the lenses. Whisker feels much wider than A-Wire, so it seems to be better suited for larger faces. On me, they seemed a bit oversized. Also, the color combinations are somewhat bland. I was hoping to see some new and different combos (like Crosshair), but all we get are usual black/black, platinum/gold, and silver/gray. Ho hum. I wish we would see more G30, VRxx, Ti or other increased-contrast tints. Even if they offered Gold with something other than Platinum.

A great wire, but simply too similar to the A-Wire for my taste. I would say the Whiskers would make a great fit for anyone that wanted an a-wire but never got around to picking one up. Sleek styling, very minimalist.

Nice, but not as nice as the company pictures made me think. I was under the impression it would be a little smaller. It would be great for individuals with a slightly larger head, though. In truth, the lens shape is slightly more square than most people on this site think.

I've tried all on, but the dark grey lens is probably the most comforting on the eyes in bright sunlight. Reminds me of the Rayban G-15 lens which is just as dark as Oakley's Black Iridium.
Don't Buy From Oakley -
Frame: Pewter Ti
Lens: +Red Iridium

I bought a pair of whiskers and sent them in because they had a defective lens. All the techs could find was a "scratch" that wasn't there. I would not have sent my glasses in just for a scratch. The lens had multiple hairline fractures above and below the center line of the lens. You had to hold them just right to see them in the light but they were there. I have been a customer of Oakley my entire life an now they have lost me over a $50 lens. I am not trying to scam the company and I have never had a problem with any of my other Oakley sunglasses. The one time I have a legitimate problem Oakley won't stand behind their sunglasses. I will never buy another Oakley product again.
