This is my favorite lens to date. In the last 10 years, I've used +Red, Ice (2002, first variant), Black Iridium, and finally got Slate when I purchased a set of Half Jackets two years ago.

I like neutral base lenses, and I like a lens that can cope with San Francisco's changing weather. For my purposes, Slate beats everything. The lens is dark enough that I wear them even on the sunniest days, but it's light enough that I use it even on overcast days. I never thought I'd find such a perfect all-around lens, but in Slate, I have it.

My wish is for Oakley to produce more lenses like this (neutral, 23% tint), but with a different outer iridium (like the Emerald Slate, which looks nice), and for more frames. I'd love a Radar Path in slate, or a Flack Jacket in Slate.

The Slate Iridium Path lens came stock on my Radar Path (09-740J). They look good and has a nice subtle iridium finish to the lens. Perfect for not so bright days, but still usable on bright days too!

My favorite Oakley Lens. All other lenses seem to be too dark, and when the sun goes behind a cloud I always used to have to take the glasses away from my eyes. I love these because looking through them looks brighter and more natural (but comfortable) without being too dark and depressing. I don't like when the world seems too dark all of the time. These are the perfect compromise between experiencing vibrant sunlight, and soothing shade.

I use these on Mframes for outdoor shooting. They are perfect for both sunny and overcast conditions.

Slate offers excellent protection for both medium and bright conditions, and also provides a great mirrored finish to obsure the wearer's eyes from the outside world. Semi-chrome in color but not too flashy, these lenses look great with nearly every frame color.

Very stylish, not exactly a Chrome lens but close enough. They are like very reflective black lenses with a neutral tint. The neutral tint allows them to be worn in moderate lighting conditions. But really Sunny conditions might be too much for these lenses.

I have these on Zeros. I can't say that I'm impressed. I'm sure I would like it more on a larger lens so I wouldn't get ambient light from all directions. It's really just a lighter Black Iridium.

Out of the 10 different Juliet pairs I have, the polished/slate is easily the most stylish pair I own. I can wear x-metal/ruby or plasma/fire, but this combination always attracts more looks, and is also a great pair to wear in pretty much any situation! It's virtually an all-silver combination (with the polished frames) and was worth every penny I paid! Superb!!

I tried these on a pair of Flak Jackets (Polished White). The lenses have basically the Light Grey base (that lets in 39% light), with a silvery iridium coating, differing from Black Iridium. You could call this Grey Iridium, cos that's what it is.

I don't know how it's done, but it actually enhances vision in low light (it was nightime but in a fairly brightly lit shopping mall where I tried this on). The silverish coating looks nice, as well, and in a sense, better-looking than B.I, which you'll have to admit, looks way too common. If you're like me (not liking too low transmission rates, want eye-blocking iridium coatings and prefer neutral tints), this could be a very functional lens for you. I might get this someday. Or maybe emerald slate iridium.

Nice lens to look through but not very special to look at... Slate iridium is kind of a silvery-black or shiny grey. The mirror is pretty heavy, so it does hide the wearer's eyes pretty well, except in sunny conditions when the light comes in from above or behind the lens.

Even though these are very versatile lenses, I'd rather be wearing the emerald slate iridiums (which have a near identical transmission rate).

Purchased my straight jacket with slate iridium and so far it¡¯s been great. I always wear them for driving since lens isn¡¯t dark and shows everything clear and clean. It sometimes feels you are wearing plain clear lens. You can simply wear this lens all day anywhere in almost any condition from cloudy to sunny days, indoor to outdoor. It¡¯s very comfortable to your eyes and your views.
Some can argue view can be too boring and not dark enough. You won¡¯t be able to look directly towards the sun. I notice this problem every time I drive during early morning but no problem during sunset. almost all times lens will cover your eyes seen from outside but if sunlight hits from side, your eyes will be expose through the lens.
You can simply wear this lens all day anywhere. Your eyes will not squint through this light lens during very extreme hot sunny days of New York and Virginia Beach. If black iridium is too dark for you and want something plain and light view through your sunglass, this lens will be perfect for you.

Not a big fan of these, as they're too bright for sunny days, yet they're not a great low-light lens since there's no contrast enhancing properties. Then again, I'm accustomed to very sunny weather. These are found on many Ichiro Juliets and since he plays in rainy Seattle, these might work well there and in other cities with similar weather. Otherwise, I don't see the point.

I like these. I tend to like anything that becomes associated with Ichiro though. I like them for low-light days and in the dwindling hours of the day. The have a silvery-look that really appeals to me. It's like a Ti Iridium, but with some purpose. I was glad to see this lens make its way into the Tribal Monsterdog. I've worn these quite a bit so you can trust me.

I have them in a Custom WBC juliet ( xmetal frame ) In my opinion they are way better then Black Iridium , they are very well balanced I agree with melg and addicted but I disagree with LEX
The signature is a bonus on these they are perfect for driving and perfect in low light condition. the mirror effect on them is awesoem even if they are very light when lookin thru them they are still more reflective then standard black Iridium , Defintily One of My favs Oakley !!!! ( I dont give a 5 cuz nothin is perfect in this world LOL )

These are cool for every day wear. They aren't that flashy so its not your typical Oakley splash. I have these on some Juliets and M Frames. Offers good protection during the day.

tried these on my mframe.... not too shabby.. comfortable to look through, but yeah .. kinda boring ... but still not a bad lens for all day usage... and definitely not as boring as plain old black iridium
MelG -
I agree w/ Lex and Addicted. It's the signature that makes it special, and the frame and blue socks that goes with the lens, and like the Emerald Slate, it has a heavy iridium tint (black) but it's light when looking through. Very nice for driving.
addicted2o -
yes a little dull...but i like it more than the black iridium lenses...not too dark not too light...
LEX7 -
I had these on my Ichiro Juliets. But they are a boring lens.
Its basically the Grey lens with an Iridium Coating for that extra protection from the sun and the mirror look on the lens.
Boring Boring Boring. The only good thing about this lens is the Ichiro Signature on it, which is the only reason im keeping them.
