I just had to add this rant: it's about my Juliets(Ruby) and Romeos, to name but two. I can't believe that Oakley can't supply the X-Metal paint(or provide a 'dust-over' service) so you/we can keep our pride and joy(s) in great condition as well as use them accordingly. Sorry, but had to get that off my chest........fffffffffrrrrrrrrr

You'd think that at on average you're spending say between £150-200(275-300 bucks) for one pair of sunglasses, the least they could do was oblige you (with of course a minimal payment....hahahah)and get them looking good again as opposed to scrappy and not fit for a boot sale......

x-metals are not made like other o matter frames guys, it is a far more tricky process and not just sprayed on.

I can kind of appreciate that however, why is it so easy to 'rub' off. I have other metal items that still have their paint attached after many more years than the 7-10 years of my X-Metals: it just makes no sense to me.

X Metals are hand finished frames. Like Terror said its not quite as simple as you would think. I bet if you sent them in for the $50 X-metal tune up you would get back a pair that the finish was fixed on.

Have sent them in already for a tune-up: came back still with paint chips on.

Don't they give you the option to swap frames on tune ups? the lady I spoke to said that was possible for £54, or is it just applicable if they cant re-pin the bridge?

also I was led to believe the x-metal finish isn't paint, it just seems to tarnish because it isn't purely titanium, it's mixed with alloys that aren't as chemically inert, mine seem to have "glossed" at the bottom of the orbital where they usually rest.

I could be wrong on this, it's just one source that suggested it to me

Dorian, as far as the offering for 54 quids concerned, I also got this offer(which meant giving up the serial! for new parts).
If it was just tarnishing then there wouldn't be obvious 'niks' in the paint.

dorian, talking of the nose bridge pins, on my only pair of juliets, as you look through them the left hand pin on the nose bridge is only just still in, meaning the bridge has quite alot of movement-is this something that i can put back in myself, if so how?, if not how can this get repaired?
also, if it falls out, am i in trouble.
not sure how this got like this as i never wear them!

Sorry, Defender, that wasn't me. But even I thought it was my post at first glance too because of that bloodskull icon. :) Brent just had to copy me by takin' my icon that I chose first... Causes so much confusion!

Paul, I sent them here:

Ellipse House
Iceni Court
Icknield Way
Letchworth Garden City
Hertfordshire
SG6 1TN
United Kingdom

Enclose a note with your contact details clarifying what you'd like done, customer care will then contact you to advise what they can do and take payment details from you. Obviously send them by recorded delivery lol. When they got back they were super-snug again plus they replaced the unobtainium kit as part of the tune up.

(oh and be prepared to not have your Juliets for about 4 weeks lol)

lol then you have to weigh up what you want most, a damaged frame with an X-serial or a new frame without something only you know is actually there. Thankfully it was only the nose bridge that needed work on mine so I was happy I could keep the frames.

Heres an idea, look for a bog standard pair of X-Metal juliets on eBay, attach the left arm to your current frames, keep the original arm then send it in to be replaced, then you have an extra pair of juliets as well, everyone wins lol

You can NEVER have enough Juliets, ask Terror :-)
