Who's seen it? I don't have the words to describe how excited I am. Anyone else getting one?

Was going to, but the Canon 5D II peaked my interest. Although the Scarlett does appear to have a Canon mount option, and thus I can use my current EF lenses, the one in the price range I had hoped for was the 2/3" sensor. I suppose I could get the fixed lens one, but that leaves my lenses unused. The smaller sensor will add a multiplier of 4x to everything making it a telephoto only. Plus the depth of field won't be as dramatic. I'd have to step up to the $7,000 model for the APS-C sensor, and even more for the full 35mm. Then add all the things like the EVF and whatnot.

Perhaps in time as prices fall, but it is a nice step. The 5DII will due for now since I get a full framed 35mm sensor and can use my lenses ranging from macro to tele, and 1080p is good enough for now, expecially when it's downsampled from 21Mpx to 2Mpx. ISO noise is pretty good.

But the 186mm 28K sensor... Wooooooah.

After looking again, the 2/3" one doesn't support Canon Mount anyway. 120fps would be a nice feature though.

It looks cool - and yet I have no real clue on what it all means.

Alright, I read through abour 3/4 of the page and two things come to mind;

I'm a genius...I understood almost everything I read.
(ego overload, sorry)
That is a serious camera, and while it sounds and looks fantastic, how much money can I justify spending on a camera that typically is used for dog and sunglass pictures?

The S35 Scarlet will be mine!

Might have to jump on the 2/3 Scarlet with 120fps too. Looks like that one is going to be at a good price.

From the promo pics, the Scarlet looks amazing. But to get that setup, it'd be amazingly expensive as well. I would think most pro photogs would get the $7,000 S35 for the Canon and Nikon lens mount options. A tad expensive but great value for the $ if it lives up to the hype.

Would love to have one, but it's way too much camera for me.

Oh, and for the Red lovers: http://redmodz.com/

No one mentioned the 3D setup at the bottom of the page? The bottom plate and adjustment screw even reads 'inter-ocular distance' so I wonder if they plan to push that or if it is just a clever setup.

I figured that was only for the Red Epic 617 (which is staring at $55k).

Yeah, you might be right Oak. In theory though it could work with any two of the 'brains' - after all, you can even do (bad) 3D with two disposable cameras, if you want to.

So you photog guys, answer this for me: It seems Red is making high-def video far more affordable and available to a larger population, so for example an indie film budget can achieve nicer results.

However, do you think it will it also have a reverse effect, i.e. opening up a higher aspirational price-point for semi-casual/serious hobbyist/general consumers? Maybe this thread is evidence for that.

Perhaps. Nikon and Canon just jumped into the fray as well, both allowing interchangeable lens effects. The Nikon D70 will give you 720p, and the Canon 5DII has 1080p. I'm saving for the Canon, so I will let you know how that looks.

Dann,

It's the D90 that shoots video.
