Thank you~

I have the splatter Hijinx & the Blue Iridium Radar, and both of them would be cool. I'm just not sure if the splatter will stick around long enough for us to sell long term. We'll probably be custom designing the glasses around the movie and characters, but just in case we were going to use off the shelf, I wanted to see what you guys thought.

Plate seems cool, but I don't have one, and it would be tough to get my hands on it. Mars Crater is cool, but it was used in the Fight Club (not sure if it was Crater or not). Flores Gascan would be cool, but I don't think they could be that careful with costume on the set.

These are not my buddies, but actual film major students I will be sponsoring. Most of them at NYU Tisch. I can't sponsor anyone at USC, as USC owns all student created material. Some of them aspire to become directors and some will assume other roles in film production. If they become really good, I'll ask for some help from my contact at Oakley that worked on X3 and handles most of entertainment relations at Oakley.

Here's some of the works:

He's going to be doing sound on the Cigarette Man this coming semester. It's seems kinda empty w/o sound, but still pretty good for first 16mm film project.

Most of them will start preproduction work for their first full production film this semester, so I don't think they're going to put out anything descent soon, but I do want to invest in their future.

Oh yeah, my first sponsored film did feature an Oakley Script Cappuccino, but it's one of her first DV projects, and I didn't like the script (not the glasses) too much, so I'm not sure how it turned out. If it's not too embarrasing, I'll put up a link. :o)

If any of you have a video on Youtube with over a million views, let me know & I'll sign you up. :o) Although, I may need to bribe you with some Oakley stuff. I have an ophthalmic tower left over & I'll be getting some RX vaults next week. (No, the tower is not for sale)

I have lots of work to do to catch up to Cheryl Shuman http://starryeyes.org as she's been doing it for over 20 years. I don't think her claim of 99.9% is true tho. She didn't do the X-Men series.

Some of you guys are very talented, so I'll ask for free (I hope) advice from time to time.

haha that ninja clip is funny a bit.
nehoo i cant speak for the others but hey im honored that my opinions are considered and merit something. so all free opinions.
and hey that idea totally rocks about customising YOUR OWN sunglasses for the movie/shot.
selling it as a movie replica or merchandise.. real smart.
let us know when the time comes

Here's the first sample of such movie. Oakley Script got a real nice coverage while the other girl hardly even wore the Ralph 4009. Perhaps she knew the lack of HDO in those???

http://www.golfoptical.com/films.php?osCsid=6e0e05aebd5fdc70f0fd0e31dde3c0d9

Let me know what you think. It's the film student director's first one, so don't be too harsh, but you can be honest, as she'll never see your comments.

She misspelled our web address, so we have some fixing up to do. :o)

BTW, I just sampled some new Oakley ophthalmics and ordered a bunch. Those were soooo awesome & I can't wait to put some of those in our movies. I never thought I'd be saying this, as our first sets of Oakley ophthalmics really didn't sell. Now, they account for over 50% of all men's ophthalmic sales for us.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

useless comments:
the way she pouts makes me kinda wanna spank her, dunno y.
no i wont apologize if ur offended by this remark. hehe
...
the part when they drove off, when the music changed, the music sounded like music u would hear from Borat.
..
but..... the kinda funny music made sense for the dry humour- she walks past the cafe and they not noticing her.

aaand the 'swedish' song that came when the secret was out is a good call.
lets just say the music used was enough to keep attention.
at first seeing it would be 7 minutes i thought id b bored but using humour if slightly manages to keep attention. plus she keeps pouting.. grrrr...

nehow golfoptical.com is yours too?

ok on to the not so good.
i definitely thought the use of camera angle couldve been way better. car scene i cant expect hollywood style side-cameras by the doors and such.
er... lets just say the camera angle was constant throughout. and thats not necessarily a good thing.
ok im lifting myself up in a basket, i know a thing or too bout angles. i got several photos i took of events and vips that were used in mainstream newspapers that beat this other 'pro' photographer from another dept. he used slr (is that right? the high end type) while i used a cheap generic digital camera that gets the job done.

nehow back to angles= as u can see, the angles the person used was just dead straight ahead at and almost constant height.
angles if used correctly can also portray the scenario, a sense of dramatism. say for example the opening sequence when she spotted the shoes and wanted to check inside the door, there couldve been closer close-ups to show anxiety.
car chase angle cant be helped.
when the couple was inside the cafe and she was 'strolling' around outside, the camera couldve cut to her outside to capture a 'stealth/spy' kind of angle or perhaps better use of angle to make it more hilarious.
the part when shes down and sad and pouting, i definitely feel the person couldve taken a cue from hollywood movies or tv series and get a close-up from below her. so the camera angle faces upwards say 45deg to her face or some sorts.
arrhh theres tons more stuff about angles professionals can tell the person but thats the part id suggest she work on. but to be fair, there were some diff angles or 'cuts' that were good. but couldve been better. well i aint a professional so take it anyway u want.

damn.. the way she pouts.. and that closeup of her eyes at the end.....
..............
excuse me i gotta go out fer a sec.

Thanks for the awesome feedback. Def, camera angle can be better. This was an exercise for a DV editing class, and I thought she did rather well in editing. Sunglass coverage was pretty cool, as it made the main character look better (this is between us, ok?). The other girl was better looking but she hardly even wore the Ralph shades she was supposed to show off. Also, there's a scene in the cafe, where the Ralph magically appear, then disappear. Obviously an editing/continuity mistake.

Also, for the guys, a Hyundai??? I'm Korean & also no offense to anyone who drives one, but a grey Elantra just doesn't do it for me. My wife's Chili Red Mini Cooper would've made a much more interesting. Then again, you can't do a spy chase with flashy cars, I guess.

Yes, http://golfoptical.com is mine (or 50% mine). Did u like the site? Free Global shipping is cool, but I guess I need to add Malaysia to the list. I just hardly have any Malaysian customers at the moment.

Also, you seem to know a thing or two about videos. If you have any youtube clips that you've done with cars, can u show them off? If they're good, maybe I can sign you up. :o) You get 10% on every glasses/sunglasses sold.

whoa im flattered. hahah no i dont have any videos on youtube. i talk a lot but this time dont have anything to show it with.
considering what the girl was working with (presumed equipment), she did good with her limitations altho still stationary shots can use more creative angles.

im just a hobbyist photographer and cameraman. i own a decent panasonic mx-500en which gets the job done. just use it for family friends trips events, no professional work.

the photography part ive got a good sense. i critiqued my friends portfolio and was spot on like not enough lighting, loss of central figure focus, blah2. it was constructive they got no hard feelings plus they affirmed it actually.

that and also my photos were used in newspapers and website for this previous company i worked at. so i got a good knack of it. anyhooo... perhaps too much info bout my work for this site. ill just keep it up to that
but that 10% sounds tempting, i might be tempted to make one just for the 'ell of it and that 10%.

although question, how r u able to track redirects from videos?
keystone
David @ CUSTOMXMETAL.COM
Aug 26, 2007 8:40 PM
Good point on tracking. Our new website (not decided on URL yet) will market exclusively through movies & 10% of each featured eyewear belongs to the movie director exclusively. It doesn't matter how the customer got to our site, as long as they purchase a particular piece featured in your movie, you get that 10%. We will not put marketing money anywhere else. We sometimes give money (as students always need it) or give away the glasses used in the movie. :o)

Obviously, it won't work for golfoptical.com as movies & golf just don't go together & we will be spending lots of $$ in marketing.

Hello David, thanks for all your answers. I have two questions for you please.

First: will the eletric purple lens for the XX be available again soon.

Second: will there be any Monster Pup lenses soon?

Thanks!

Electric Purple for X-Metal XX will surely be available again. I'm not sure when. As I stated in our last newsletter (you can sign up at http://customxmetal.com
we are having difficulty obtaining some material for manufacturing.

There are a few Monster Pup lenses available at Oakley. We don't do those yet, as it's a pretty small market. If Lux discontinues making Pup replacement lenses or the model goes discontinues, making obtaining the lens difficult, we may step in. You see, we try our best to provide what is not easily obtained elsewhere for Oakley fans. :o)

It would appear you are right. Liquid Metal and H2O2 are trademark terms of Keystone.

that would probably be due to the ongoing legal issues he has probably had for using a name such as "X Metal" without consent or permission from Oakley and I highly doubt they are too happy with his using it to sell aftermarket inferior lenses...Just my .02 cents

as cool as the colors are, I have heard very little positive about the optical quality. A real shame too considering they could be awesome if they were optically comfortable...One of those things I guess...
