Did Oakley ever make a Fire M Frame lens that wasn't vented (other than Orange Mirror and other vintage lenses)? Are there any available from current production?

Other than the Collector's Razor Blade and this one off in the DB, all I'm finding are vented lenses.

The Collectors RB won't fit in an M Frame in any case.

I guess this is proof of that, huh?

So, then does that mean the only non-vented fire lenses for M Frame were for collegiate pairs?

I *think* I have most of the official options accounted for at this point, but I can never be 100% sure.

I have a question in reference to the 67 lens. Are there variations in the overall size between a Mumbo 67 lens and a later version M Frame 67 lens? I know there is the obvious nose piece cutout size differences, but I'm referring to the overall size/dimensions.

Not that was publicly released, maybe a prototype or one for athletes, like the neon pink, Sochi green and some others

Hi thank you once again , take a look couple of red flags , I don't like the lens lettering and there are air bubbles in the frame !!!! Want it to be real but .....

The lens lettering would have been a laser etching by that point, vs a pad print. The edges of the lens, and the overall look of the frame material just look cheap. Definitely stay away.

Thanks Dann the last word on vintage Oakley's has spoken - it will not be admitted into the hallowed collecting inner circle. That and there are more bubbles than an Aero Bar !!! Pity it would have been cool , the other bidders want to believe or are in denial !!!!!

Reason being: the crystal frames don't flex as well. In order to get the elasticity inherent with most of the sport frames, there needs to be a greater nylon component, which is hard to do in a translucent frame. Once in a while you'll see a Crystal Red, but it's not common.

Once again thank you Dann, the knowledge of why , excellent answer why no crystal clear New M Frame , I should have remembered the problems with the 1s and 2s and the superglue ! Was lucky enough to pick up he crystal red ones a couple of weeks ago , thought they may have been a bit rarer, price seems a bit better knowing that now.

The Crystal Red was, oddly enough, a 2015 release. It suddenly showed up in Vault, so if I had to guess, they had worked out some of the frame material issues by then.

Yes Dann makes sense they had probably improved the crystal material by then - certainly no bubbles ha. Darn - 2015 release (2010 on data base) well outside my collecting range ( pre 2007) may have to through these back in or turn a blind eye, bit like the X-Squared !

Right the New M Frame crystal clear frames with bubbles in them sold , good luck to that buyer. But back to knowledge and in particular the lenses (everyone stop groaning !). Now I know there was great discussion on mumbo/m frame so confusing there but quite frankly that thread became a bit big and confusing in itself and pictures etc became scrubbed (presumably after the hack) it was also complicated by too much detail/knowledge and not all in one place in the thread so it would be nice to just concentrate on the basic basics of what we know about the lenses. Now we all know the basic types all all refer to the famous picture showing the 10 lenses not later varied and vented ones (later issued with New M Frame). With reference to the basic 10 lenses comes the question of issue date, Gen 1 vs Gen2 and onwards. Now we know as a rough rule of thumb, that Gen1 lenses mainly had no print on them but later Gen2-onwards did. But which ones are purely Gen1 and never crossed over to Gen2.

Now I am guessing-

Strip, V and 67 will be Gen1 (no print).
Original Hybrid Gen1 & Gen2 (printed).
Heater Gen1 and Gen2.
Sweep Gen1 & Gen2.
Slash Gen1 & Gen2.
Strike Gen2.
Hybrid S Gen2 .
New Hybrid no print but SI issue only so Gen2 onwards.

Here's what I've found via catalogs:

1989:
Mumbo - Hybrid / V / 67 (no logo, wider nosepiece cutout since it uses the Blade pads)

1990:
M Frame Gen 1 - Catalogs from this year still show original 3 lenses

1991:
Current - Strip / V / Sweep / Heater / 67 / Hybrid
Coming Soon - Strike (Fall) / Slash (Winter)

1992:
Japan Catalog - Sweep / Heater / Hybrid / Strike
UK Price List - Still refers to Mumbo - V / 67 / Hybrid / Sweep / Heater

1993:
Flyer - Heater / Strike / Sweep / Hybrid

1994:
Price List - Heater / Strike / Sweep / Hybrid

1996:
Move to Gen 2 (Icon vs Thermo Logo) - Heater / Strike / Slash / Hybrid / Sweep
First time Slash appears, but I have several in Gen 1
Logo appears on bridge

1997:
Gen 2 Flyer - Heater / Strike / Slash / Sweep
Pro M Frame - Heater / Strike / Hybrid / Sweep
M Frame Baseball (Straight Stem) - Heater / Strike
M Frame Cricket (Vented) - Heater / Strike / Sweep (Gen 2 & Pro)
M Frame Golf (Same as Cricket, but sold in 3 lens array)

1998:
Product Lineup - Same as 1997 for the most part.

2003:
Pro M Frame & New M Frame (aka Gen 3) - Heater / New Hybrid / Hybrid S / Strike / Sweep

2005:
BTO / Built to Order (Precursor to OCE) - Same options as 2003, but also with Vented

Some Notes:
There is a gap in my material, but the New M Frame would have transitioned in 1999.
The Pro M Frame would be the only model to share the original Hybrid and New Hybrid due to that 2 year gap
Hybrid was a 'Hybrid' of V & 67
New Hybrid was a 'Hybrid' of Strike & Sweep (we assume since Heater is much bigger)
More or less, all lenses should fit all frames since there was no gap in production, but I wouldn't always guarantee it. That said, I've used the last remaining replacement lenses via OakleySI to complete a Gen 2 Baseball pair.

In 1992, M-frame tennis also existed.
The tennis version has a pad on the forehead listed in the Japanese catalog.
Also, the M-frame baseball has generation1.

Red iridium lens and Rust lens have been replaced with Positive red iridium lenses and Persimmon lenses, respectively, and have been discontinued.

When the M-frame was sold in a yellow letter box, Blue iridium was the first generation and was a color similar to today's sapphire iridium. The blue color became darker from the end of the yellow letter box.

Planet-X frame color is slash only

Some lenses on the slash do not have a ventilator hole on the side of the nose

Borrowed from the Zero line, perhaps? - Dann

It is not a finished product of the fingerprint arm that is diverted from the Sub Zero arm that you sometimes see. It's a black color frame. Of course, it is not a custom paint. I got it from a former oakley official. I think I can post a photo when I get home after work today. I also got a pair of spare arms

M-frame Baseball Generation 1 stretch Logo

Matt Black frame

I remembered.

This photo I posted on Instagram in March was a stretch logo version.

I need to look for other pictures in the warehouse where the logo can be seen

Another deep bow KT , you are a mine of knowledge when it comes to the exotic and you my friend have just ruined my evening with those Baseballs !! My only fear is I get drunk tonight and thrash around in my Zero collection pulling the arms off one and sticking them onto an M Frame !! Or I could just go and post something rude on the other place and which won't stick out anyway. Seriously though good pic find !

Mat Black Spare arms

I have two stretch logo fingerprints, SubZero # 2,
but stretch logos SubZero # 1 and # 2 are relatively rare.
I haven't seen the stretch logo of carbon print # 1 yet
