I still believe the creation of the Mag line is the 2nd best tecnology Oakley ever came up with just behind the X-Metal and the O-luminum beingthe 3rd. Too bad it's being discontinued because of the flaw.

I have 4 lenses total. 3 are etched and the clear one is not.

I think i've discussed this before, you simply wouldn't be able to get the whole word "magnesium" on the lenses of the Switch and the Fours which don't have them. And if they did the etching would be a nuisance because of the size of the lenses. The first batches of Mag M's did not come with the etching, only the replacement lenses started showing up with etchings further down the line and now they're a permanant fixture. You'll still be able to find some of the Mag M's in stores which don't have the etching.

Mag is very nice looking which is why I own several, but too corrosive for my liking, especially for everyday use in wet or dry conditions. I've sold most of my Mags because the coating just won't stay on, and i've laid my frustrations to Oakley more than a dozen times over a two year period.

"Magnesium" IS on the Switch and Four lenses. Just not from the first few years. All the new ones typically have it etched on the lens.

I haven't looked at Magnesium for several years now, but if the new ones do have the etching i'd certainly like to see them. I defintely know if there was an etching on the four, it'd be nusiance value for vision.

Nope, you can hardly even notice it when your wearing them.
maybe on the Mag Four S it would be annoying.

Anyone tried changing lenses in their Mags? No, not the MFrame, the other ones...

I want Ice lenses in my Plasma Switch, but can't figure out how to pop out the lenses. There are two ridges (one on the top, one on the bottom) inside the orbital to hold in the lens. How would one go about removing/replacing the lens?

On the Switch? You don't...the frame has no disassembly point and if you hadn't noticed, Mag is pretty rock solid. Plus I don't know how you'd get your hands on Switch replacement lenses unless you have access to a Warranty Raw Parts list. On the Four and Four S, it's just a T-6 like the X-Metals.

Hey Guys,

the Switch was available in Pearl/Fire, Ti Plasma/Ice, and Carbon/Black Iridium.
I REGRET lettting my black pair go about a year ago. I have also never heard of a way to replace the lenses at all.

Peace.

To get replacement lenses, for any reasonably recent frame I know of, you can call Oakley and buy them. Last I checked, the Ice lenses for Mag Switch went for $40. Which would be worth it to me to not see everything through a puke-green filter.

LEX, you're right, the box says Pearl. Although, I equate Pearl with the White Pearl Minute's I've got. IMO the Mags look more like Plasma... Shrug. BTW, how do the frame colors compare through your collection of Mags? Do all of the colors look the same on each model?

ive only got 2 mags,
MAG FOUR S DARK CARBIDE
MAG FOUR DENIM

those 2 colours look the same as they do on the MAG M-FRAME and the MAG SWITCH.
its a shame that pearl is not available on the MAG FOUR or the S version cos the plasma doesnt look very nice.

You can get the lenses out...they got them in somehow. It's the same way you get them out of the Valve's and Splice's. If you look on the outer edge of the inside of the lense orbital, the ridges don't go all the way to the edge. The wrap of the frame lets the lense curve out of it's holding, so push in from the front outer portion until the lens bends backwards. Once it's bent, slide the lens in a circular motion out of the frame. Reverse to put them back in.

sounds risky Dann, id be uncomfortable doing that in a MAG frame that has practically no flex.
i even get worried when im doing it to my XLJs

Dann, that's my philosophy, if someone got it in there, you should be able to get it out. I tried the sliding method for a few minutes, but couldn't get the lens to budge. If you look really close, the bottom of the lens is contoured to match the lip in the orbital... I wonder if it's a brute force thing...
I'm going to call monday and find out.

I can't see getting the lenses out without damaging them. Just because they went in doesn't mean they'll come out; it's quite possible the lens will flex enough to get past the ridges going in but not enough coming out, just like the teeth in a clutch mechanism or a cable tie.

If someone has done this already and proved me wrong, no problemo.

Having worked in walk-in I can tell you from experience there is no way to get the Switch lenses out. (on a side note, ive never seen a pair of 4's or switches that said magnesium on the lens. EVER.) But yes, with the design of the frame, you can put the lenses in but they wont come out. Originally they made replacement lens kits and the old lenses would actually be drilled out with a dremel tool. This got too time consuming and too hard to do without jacking up the frame so now when you send them in or bring them to walk in they will just give you a new pair. So for everyone wanting to know one of the best secrets of Oakley warranty, if you break you Mag Switch in half (go ahead, they are brittle, its magnesium) and send the glasses in you will get new lenses and a new frame for the regular warranty price of $22. Just say no when they try and offer you new lenses over the phone for an additional $18 or $28 cause youre gonna get them anyway. You can thank me later.

Brian, if you still want Ice lenses for your Switch, and are willing to destroy your fire lenses whilst removing them, hit me with a pm because I have a pair that is in decent shape you can have for a low price. They came from an old pair of switches that got broken in a fall--but the lenses survived.
