i'm 100% sure someone said it was a T5 bolt to remove/swap lenses, but don't ask me who or where

It's a T-5 bolt, I'm pretty sure.

Of course you can't just go into an O-Store and take out a torx to verify this, but I'd bet on it.

It's T5? Not T6?

Nope, not a T-6 like the previous X-Metals. I think Oakley pulled the same stunt on the Splice too. I guess it's a mechanism designed to make switching a bit more difficult. That or it's the most appropriate screw size for the design.

The temple shocks, as you guys have already figured out, are not like the temple shocks of any previously existing X-Metal frame. Yes, they're triangular. It seems that they're also designed a bit smaller and with a little more give. I guess this is supposed to spread torque across the entire frame.

Keeping in mind that this is Oakley's first semi-rimless design for an X-Metal which makes use of the flex couplers about the nose too. I think the problem that a lot of people complained about concerning the first Romeo is out. Hopefully these get better average review in that particular department.

I wish they'd sell one with the classic X-Metal color and Black iridium lens without polarization. Call me old fashioned but that color combo goes well with anything, and I thought it a little tragic that Oakley broke the tradition with the Penny.

Ya I'm with you on that one Jon. I don't know why a lot of ppl seem to dislike the X-metal color.

I like the X-Metal frame color quite a bit. I'm not so fond of Black Iridium, however. I actually got my Ruby Penny for the frame color, not the lenses. I know a lot of folks on this forum are huge Ruby fans, so please keep the floggings to a minimum, please.

Maybe I'll warm up to the current color combos when I try them on again tomorrow. My initial dislike for X-Metal polished frames has dimished slightly, but I still would love the X-Metal/Blk. ir. non-polarized idea of mine to come to fruition.

A polished frame with a Ruby lens on the Romeo II would be neat. Then again, I said the same thing for the original Romeo. Can you guys imagine how blinged out that would look??

T5 Hex Bolt, as I reported on another thread, is indeed the culprit. And I don't think that making it a T5 is necessarily an attempt at making things harder to change out, as you can buy a T5 Hex wrench just as easily as a T6 at any hardware store in the country. It just minimizes the visibility I suppose.

Nah, I bet the folks at Oakley had a bunch of T5 screws taking up space and decided to throw them into a design.

Are the eastems ridiculously thin leading into the hammer or is just the photo? Or does it just look thin compared the bulk of the rest of the earstam? After seeing the new images it does look so much nicer, even the Polished/Titanium. And as a few others here have stated, the X-Metal color is fine, it just seems that Oakley relies too much on using Black Iridium as a stock color. I would love the X-Metal frame if it had a Titanium or Gold Iridium lens. Same with Carbon, it's too dark to have a dark lens.

oops - yes I meant torx.

A vote here for X-Metal / Black non-polar (though the Carbon is good too). I'm not a fan of garish frames, glitz can look ridiculous IMO esp. since it's right on your mug.

Totally agree with you, Phil. Black iridium is a nice 'basic' color, but it is so overused. That's one of the reasons why I got my Finito Juliet... Carbon frame with a lens color other than Black iridium.

I would like to see some more of the medium light lenses on X-Metals such as G30, VR28 Blue Polarized, perhaps even HI Persimmon.

I just go back from my lunch break. I figured I would take a walk downtown and try on some Juliets and XXs and I ended up trying the Romeo 2. They had the Polished/Titanium model. I was impressed with the fit. Not too big at all. Extremely light and very flexable with the coupler added. The Hammer stems are the coolest part of the whole frame in my opinion. The half frame design is actually very nice, though still not my fav feature on Oakleys. I would be able to wear it comfortably if I could afford it.

wow, x-metal/black isn't available online, and the rest are sold out temporarily

For what it's worth, the polar version is now up but temporarily sold out, and at $615 CAN it's a new record, most expensive frame yet (not counting Thump).

Well, its only like $15 more than what the X-metal/Ruby Juliets were. But ya, for that price, the color combo seems rather...plain lol

We had a grand opening at he O-Store last night (Friday), and people over there seemed eager to try on the Romeo IIs. Too bad we had to inform them that they weren't available for sale from the store until a little later into the future.

Believe me, plain sells well with a lot of people. Occasionally, though, you do get a 24k Gold Iridium lover.

Plain is what most people look for in sunglasses. Black Iridium does its job of blocking light, which is why most people buy sunglasses. While some people want loud, and Oakley certainly has products to please them, just as many, if not more, want something they can wear any time, with anything, and feel OK with. Thus, the universal Black/Black combo.
