Why does ebay cancel peoples auctions of oakley display cases?
Seen a couple people try to sell them and every time the auction gets canceled by ebay?

Those are considered properties of Oakley and I assume any authorized dealer would have to surrender them if they wish to terminate their contractual relationship.

Accountability is an issue and some are reported "lost" and then are placed for sale to hardcore Oaklet fans who wish to collect them. Technically, this is an incorrect business procedure.

Its basically selling someone elses(Oakleys)property.

Not only is someone buying stolen property, but think of what one could do with an Oakley display cabinent other than display their items. If someone got a case and bought a shipment of fake Oakleys, theyd be able to sell them as real to unsuspecting people a lot easier.

That makes sense.. I book marked the auctions to see what they were selling for and I noticed each one got canceled fast so I figured I'd ask. Figured they would do the same for the redbull fridges cause they are loned to the stores who carry redbull, but those things are selling like hot cakes.

The basic premis behind the Oakley/Ebay thing is that Oakley does not want people to be able to purchase Oakley displays to help prevent the sale of fake Oakleys.

They work with Ebay/Vero very closely to help prevent this. It's not that it is illegal to own such items, but to discourage the vast misuse along with the monumental Foakleys in the market.

Honestly though, how hard would it really be to make make their own cases. It's not bridge engineering. It's basically bent metal, plexiglass, & rivets. I think Oakley doesn't want people to make a profit off of something that they originally absorbed all the cost on.

I don't recall saying that I can make one, I just know how they're made. I'm just saying that if the fakers really wanted to I'm sure they could make a convincing display case from which to hock their fakery. But, if I do somehow suddenly become talented enough to make my own, I'll run 3 DW's down to you myself.

I believe the cases are made by a place called Fabcon or Morgan Metals. Try getting the # off the net or Oakley might even give it to you. You can prob get a case made without the logos on it.
At one point they were actually selling the small cube displays without the O's.

Or PM me. I have a Mega tower up for grabs.

If you really want one...they show on Craig's list from time to time.

And as someone who used to work with/for Red Bull, they used to pull fridges. I don't know what's changed.

So is there a politically correct way to buy/sell displays other than craigslist? I have a thump tower that I would like to sell, will Dann allow me to post it here? I picked up a tower from a former cycle shop owner and he told me he had to purchase his display from Oakley. Which, as far as I'm concerned, would make it rightfully his to sell. I understand why they don't want them on ebay, ie to aid in selling fakes, but I don't know if I buy the whole "dealing in stolen merchandise" angle.

They've seemed to have backed down on ebay lately. You might be able to sneak it on with a BIN and it will sell before they realize it.

I wonder if we give oakely, ebay ... 'they system' too much credit. Probably not some fancy matrix of formulas seeking out your contraband. More likely some oakley employee who has 'check ebay' on his/her outlook once a week. Sometimes they forget, sometimes they're on vacation, sometimes they give an 'A' for effort and let it slide.

Man, I miss x-files.
