I think it also might have to do with the fact that the lenses are quite flat in comparisson to the Juliet, Penny, Minute, etc.

I've seen binoculars that have the same "ruby lenses" but if you actually look at it in different angles, you can see some orange-yellow. Some not so much...but it's always there. As far as the ones I've seen, anyway.

yeah i know what you mean, but these were just red in a 'stained glass' kind of colour, very deep and rich red, but not to look through obviously, if i'm near there again soon, i'll nip in and get pics

All that work to cut a ruby into a GC for your sweet custom - and Oakley goes out and releases Ruby for the GC!!! Isn't that how it goes!

ruby canteen:

Pretty representative of the ruby lenses out right now - though I admit the GC ruby is a step up from the others.

Thought this was interesting. Fire from a 1998 #10XXX Juliet. Yet to the right is a Fire from a 1997 #6XXX Romeo. Just shows how the batches have nothing to do with age.

I dont know, I am quite pleased with the coloration of the g/c ruby lens, in the direct daylight the color is all the way to the ends. Of course depending on what light source and angle you use it does look different. But like I said, The purple hues go all the way to the ends...we all know how hard this color is to photograph.

In Paul's shot above I imagine a lot ot the fire look on the ends is caused by a reflection of the paper on the bottom...when I set the above on white paper the result looks the same but when you hold them head on 2" inches away, even coloration all around.

Trying putting your black microfibre bag behind the gascan lenses so no light can pass through... the colour will be more prominent. and you've got an awesome set of lenses!

My Canteens look like those Gascan ones...not like the Canteen photo..its funny Oakley telesales told me there is no way I could have Ruby MD/Canteen they are being released later in the summer I feel like I offended the guy (who was being cool) when I said I had them already..sometimes I get lucky..now the Tungsten Pups I swear I was the last person to get(still 1 of my top 3 or 4 pairs)

I think the lens shape plays a major role in how the color appears. The Gascan and M Frame always have a darker more colorful appearance, but my Monster Dogs and Straight Jackets etc appear less colorful...The new stuff released though, is super nice as opposed to what was available as little as 6 months ago. Lots of purple, and deep red...Like Oluvr's...

Man, I was just at the SOHO O-Store yesterday, saw the Ruby GC lenses and thought "nah, what would I put them in?". I totally forgot about the Text GC. Great combo Todd.

Anybody know if these could possibly be Oakley lenses like described? I've found no mention of them on this site. Thanks!

That's what I think. Searching a little shows that he sold a pair of Penny Ruby Quartz lenses just a week or so ago. Sure does have a lot of lenses for a "rare" lens. Too bad, because they'd look great in my Penny collection even if they appear to be completely unwearable.

this is odd, when you look at the thumbnail of this pic its very much like ruby quartz but as soon as you view the pic at full size you see my juliets as plain ruby...still a lush colour though

Nice color Dorian...That is an interesting point from the perspective view...Just goes to show how dynamic Ruby lenses can be...Some more fire-esque, and some, as purple as plus red...Go figure

Nice! Mine just shows yellow at that angle. While I was on my way to the cinema to get some spiderman 3 tickets, I decided to take some shots...

Just goes to show how dynamic Ruby lenses can be
exactly, which is why I love ruby but I would still love ruby quartz to be a reality, these are the same lenses but under different lighting conditions

as you can see, both shots look more like fire

Yup... majority of the time it looks fire-ish. Only in dim lighting conditions do they look deep red.

Here's an update on my quest to get ruby quartz look-a-likes in Malaysia. I go around optical shops and see what they can do...

So today I was at a shop and there is a pair of lenses (non-oakleys) which I think the colour is pretty good for ruby quartz. See the following shot:

The intensity is 50% (the higher the darker) and the maximum the shop was able to darken it was 75%. I dunno, but it was quite comfortable looking through this one, maybe that will change when it is really dark. What do u guys think? is this the colour of the ruby quartz when darkened??

Guys, I've got loads of questions about the Ruby Quartz lenses and I hope I can get some answers. These will help me describe to the opticians, etc. these has always bugged me

- what is the mirrored coating on the back of the ruby quartz for?
- Can ur eyes be seen when u wear ruby quartz?
- Is ruby quartz simply a dark tinted lens with a mirror coating behind?
- What colour is the mirror coating? Black?

When I asked about the price i was told approx 150USD for the lenses. But that was for multicoated lenses, which reduces the reflections. Now, I want those reflections to give that 'mirror/iridium' look, so opting to go without multicoating reduces the price by 30USD...

I need input!! Please help...

Hi Guys,
Does anyone own a pair of Romeo 2 with the Ruby lens?
I saw 2 for sale on ebay and am thinking of getting a pair for myself.
They are quite expensive! Are they worth it?

Hey Sallie, only if you really love that lens; I love loud combos but on frames like Romeo2 and Spike, the size of the lens makes it very loud, almost too much.

If you buy it and dont like it, you will always be able to resell it.
