Yup... majority of the time it looks fire-ish. Only in dim lighting conditions do they look deep red.
Here's an update on my quest to get ruby quartz look-a-likes in Malaysia. I go around optical shops and see what they can do...
So today I was at a shop and there is a pair of lenses (non-oakleys) which I think the colour is pretty good for ruby quartz. See the following shot:
The intensity is 50% (the higher the darker) and the maximum the shop was able to darken it was 75%. I dunno, but it was quite comfortable looking through this one, maybe that will change when it is really dark. What do u guys think? is this the colour of the ruby quartz when darkened??
Guys, I've got loads of questions about the Ruby Quartz lenses and I hope I can get some answers. These will help me describe to the opticians, etc. these has always bugged me
- what is the mirrored coating on the back of the ruby quartz for?
- Can ur eyes be seen when u wear ruby quartz?
- Is ruby quartz simply a dark tinted lens with a mirror coating behind?
- What colour is the mirror coating? Black?
When I asked about the price i was told approx 150USD for the lenses. But that was for multicoated lenses, which reduces the reflections. Now, I want those reflections to give that 'mirror/iridium' look, so opting to go without multicoating reduces the price by 30USD...
I need input!! Please help...
