Hi,

I've beem a passive 'member' of this website for a long time. I'm a fan of Oakley just like you. I got X metal XX's, Zeros and since I really like the Gascans, after trying them on in a shop I decided to buy them. I couldn't decide whether to buy bronze or whithe I bought both, on Ebay UK (not USA). Anyway, I just recieved them and I think they're fakes. Could you please help me make sure thay are fake/original? I've taken lots of photos, so here we go:

1. here's a shot of the warranty card, it looks like a scan of the original thing (look at the edges, look like the copy they had to scan was used a lot or sth) also, lot of debris on the black parts of the card:
http://img490.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fake18ix.jpg

2. the cleaning bag, looks different a bit than the one from my XX's, but then again, I've had the XX's for a long time, so Oakley may have changed it a bit. It looks like it creases easily...
http://img381.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fake20fa.jpg

3. the card you're suppose to send back to oakley, no problems here, but then again - very easy to copy:
http://img377.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fake33ys.jpg

4. i've discovered small blemishes (not sure if using the correct word, I;m not english so excuse me ;) ) of different color on the frames, I marked so you can see them better:
http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fake41bv.jpg

5. Also, small imperfections on the frame...

I have no idea about the lens, I have G30 on my Zeros and blue iridium on metal XXs so no idea how black iridium looks upclose or how rootbeer should looke like..

6. This is the box they came in:
http://img65.imageshack.us/my.php?image=o13cr.jpg

7. differents shots of the bronze ones...
http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=o34ys.jpg
http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=o47mv.jpg
http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=o59tk.jpg
http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=o62me.jpg
http://img65.imageshack.us/my.php?image=o73ly.jpg
http://img489.imageshack.us/my.php?image=o116om.jpg

So, any help would be much aprreciated. I thinking of returnig them, so let me know what you think, but to be honest, I'd be much dissapointed if Oakley made them, they're just have this cheap feeling to them ;)
Anyway, thanks for any help

Regards,
Wojtek (from Poland)

Hi Wojtek,

i am having problems seeing the pics that you have posted, i am only able to see the 1st photo of the warranty card and it seems very dodgy...

from my bad experience with fake gascans on Ebay UK. maybe you should check for spelling errors on the box and Microfibre cloth (there is for the ones that i ahve received)....the ones that i received definitely had some very glaring spelling errors on them....next would be to check for the colour of the icon / Oakley emblem on the arms....

We would need more fotos btw....

hope this helps...

s*** I just discovered that the box has a spelling mistake as suggested - it says 'envlosed' instead of 'enclosed'

so i guess no more problems, they're fake.
so anyway - you can use the pics to see how a fake pair of gascans look upclose ;)

I am 99% sure the White gascan is FAKE!! as the emblem is not of the correct colour....A white Gascan should have a white O emblem ....the other Gascan looks dodgy too....cannot commend as i am not sure what is the colour combination that you bought....

the box seems too big too....the fake Gascans which i received also had a larger box with no barcode sticker...the following is a link to the model code and colour combination available for the Gascan model....

http://oakley.com.au/o/o2222d

from my knowledge....all Oakley boxes comes with a barcode sticker stating the Frame and lenses option....
the correct measurement of the box should be around
4.5 cm x 6 cm x 17 cm
1.77 inch x 2.36 inch x 6.69 inch

Hope this helps....

And the made in u.s.a ce had poor workmanship.

i think it's a high-end fake

Hi Wojtek. Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, both those Gascans you have there ARE fake. AS pariahnihilist said, the Oakley white Gascan comes with a WHITE icon, not grey. Plus the Oakley pamphlet and box look all wrong.

I suggest you get a refund ASAP.

Everyone here can help you out with ebay auctions if you feel something may be wrong, before you buy.

I agree with ford and pariah.....

maybe you could leave him a bad feedback or something to warn others about it.

Looks like gascan is becoming a closely followed up fake just like minutes

thanks a lot guys

the thing is, I doublechecked the guy from ebay before placing the order. The photos seemed OK (you can see the box, bag, paperwork - why should one be suspicius ;) ).
He had 100% positive feedback with people thenking him for "great oakley's". Guess these really are high-end replicas so that's why no one really saw anything wrong with them.

So, will be fighting for the refund now ;)

thanks again!

Hi Wojtek,

sad to say i am afraid you have gotten the same high end fakes like me....its done quite well but nonetheless still very fake...i am sure if you read the description of the microfibre cloth you would notice more spelling errors, the most glaring being the Oakley brand name itself...cannot remember wats it was mis-spelled to....

Start a Ebay item not as described process as soon as you can ....but before doing that....take photos of the obvious flaws on the items....in case you need documentary proof if the seller tries to be funny......my experiences with those fake gascans has taught me alot!! wasted close to 40GPB just on shipping alone...but ended up with nothing and lots and lots of heartache and frustration...in trying to get back my money....

Just pop me a PM if you need more help....

the guy i bought from too had impecable Feedback on ebay as well....100++ postive from sales of his so called 'Geniune Gascan".....but he has since been deregistered by ebay....

Reason i am not too sure....the last time i checked, he still has a 100% feedback before he was de-registered...

the seller used some pretty good photos for my listing. he showed photos of the gascan, warranty card and gd packinging. but very craftily left out any photos of the O emblem on the arms....So in case you want to make another purchase on ebay for the gascans...make sure you choose those where you can see the O emblem and that the emblem is of the correct colour...not only the rating of the seller....i too made the same mistake...sigh....

hope this helps...

the good thing is that I wrote an email to the seller that I'd like my money back and he replied that it will be no problem, so at least all I'm loosing here is the postage costs. good news I guess...
I'll head to my local O-store I guess ;)

hope your loss on the postage cost is not as significant as mine....

cheers
