Hi all.. this is my first post in the forum so you’ll have to excuse the rookie-ness. I got into Oakley last year while I was in New Zealand and rest (you all know how it is) is history. Now that I’m back home It’s been tough going since there aren’t any O-stores here (Sri Lanka) and only one optics shop in town that carries Oakley. Even then the range is limited and the price point (in local currency) is so steep that only tourists and a very few certifiably insane locals(like myself) would even consider buying them. Thank god for e-bay and the O-review! It’s good to know you’re not alone. Cheers Dann, you’ve secured your place in heaven.

So far my collection is very very limited by the standards some of you guys set (dang!) but I’m working on it and dutifully depleting my bank balance in the process, rest assured. It’s a pain not having decent O resources in this country. Not just retail but service and maintenance etc. thankfully I haven’t had any major issues yet, except for with my Penny’s. The point where the left orbital joins the nose bridge is lose (the right one is tight) so the glasses tend to sit crooked. Happen to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to fix it myself? Like I said there’s no O-support here and mailing it out to Oakley in the sates for a tune-up is just not viable.

Any thoughts on this: http://cgi.ebay.com/Oakley-Belt-Rare_W0QQitemZ5429446324QQcategoryZ2993QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I’m thinking of buying it, though with international shipping it’ll cost me retail! :/ reckon it’s worth it? Also I plan get a pair of Carbon Juliets, either black polarized or the Ducati.

Keep up the good work guyz!

Welcome Eshan. I'm in Japan so luckily I have some of the best Oakley support on Earth. Sri Lanka is a good way off the beaten path in the world of "O". I think your best bet would be contacting the staff at the UAE Oakley HQ.

It is really tough to say if your Penny's are a do-it-yourself job. Maybe you can put a couple pics on this thread and let us take a look. I wish I had more useful info for you.

Welcome to the O-Review.

You must really stand out as an Oakley wearer over there. It takes real dedication to be an Oakley fan in a place where the prices are high & the support is non-existent. Good to have you aboard. By the way, what is retail on a pair of Pennys in the cuurency of Sri-Lanka?

Welcome to the site Eshan !

By the way, I have the same belt and its totally an awsome belt, the leather is supple, unlike the leather on the black one wich is more stiff.

Good to have you. It's nice to see a steady inflow of new folks. And if I secured a place in heaven by doing this, why did I risk my life saving rescuing a burning building full of puppies. Oh well....

What kind of building is filled with puppies? (I mean besides a burning one...which is a given)

When the building catches fire, they all run in like lemmings and we have to go save them.

Welcome all! It's exciting to see O-freaks in different stages of development. I'm even more impressed by the couple of folks that just got their first pair of Oaks and have already found this site to enjoy.

welcome. to answer your question, i'd pass on the belt unless you really like it. paying retail on ebay is never worth it unless it's actually a rare item. those belts are available retail from the site, so there's no reason to go the ebay route and get gouged on shipping.

Hey... Thanx for all the greets & encouragement guyz! Guess I am lucky to have discovered the O-review this early on. Now there’s no chance in hell I could give up my O-addiction, even if I wanted to!

It’s cool being an O-wearer here in SL. Lot’s of folks tend to notice the shades even though hardly anyone would actually know they’re Oakleys.

To answer your question Todd, a pair of Pennys/Juliets (at the only shop in town that’s got em) cost 40,000 SL rupees, which is about US$400. This is a lot by local standards but It’s not so much the price that puts people off, it’s just that nobody here would spend that kind of money on a pair of sunglasses. A watch, definitely or jewelry but not sunnies. I used to work for Swatch-group, the company that sells Swiss watches like Tag Heuer, Longines & Omega and we’d sell 5-10 watches priced from US$1,000 – 5,000 a DAY easy + jewelry! Folks here consider stuff like that good Investments. There’s plenty of fake designer sunglasses on the streets as well so that’s probably another reason why no one would wanna pay for the genuine article. Shame coz there’s plenty of sun here :).

Yeah, my friends and family think I’m nutz.

Might be heading down under (Australia/NZ) again soon so it’s time to make a list of O stuff to try and pick up. Maybe I can get my Penny’s serviced while I’m over there too. Anybody know where exactly?

Fair point about the belt Brian, but I think I’m prolly gonna give in and get it anyway… that gold skull is just bad (in a good way).
