This is really cool!! Those guys didn't mess around when it came to the store concepts. I didn't know about this real angel or the squid, only the clothing!! I saw the angel installation on the forum and then another brand together in the same store a while later, so much history and the beginning of a change!! Yeah, there was a lot of effort put into the O-Stores in the beginning. Made for quite the first impression/experience. No problem Lucas! I like to contribute when I can, if I can.

I hope that early spirit is making a comeback—both in the stores and in the products! I think we all hope for that!! Unfortunately, here in Brazil where I live, there’s only one standard store, but whenever I travel, I’ll always be on the lookout for the stores!

That Covent Garden angel was, and always will be, insane.

There's one Oakley store in a mall in lower Manhattan.
So, 5th avenue and TS are closed :(

Crime and rent.

Sunglasses stores in the area get stolen from multiple times a day, nearly every day. Usually 5-10 frames at a time. Sometimes the guys pull weapons also, too dangerous for staff to interfere. Plus, sky high rents. Doesn’t make sense to keep stores open.

What DBN says is correct. Leases came up, Landlords wanted more money + losses from theft and decline in foot traffic made it not worth the expense so leases weren't renewed. Money was reinvested into other locations.

Wasn't just for Oakley, a lot of retail is pulling out of those areas. Just getting too expensive to do business in places like that. Companies used to write off the loss s as "Marketing" because having stores there was seen as prestigious. Rents and taxes keep rising sales stay flat or down and it's just not sustainable.

I was at the NYC store about 6 months before it closed, there were no customers anywhere, not just the O Store, a lot of empty store fronts around it,
