Lenses: What are your most popular tints? Are there any technical innovations to talk about for next season?

Oakley’s newest evolution to Prizm is an exciting technological innovation that we will be launching for next season.
Prizm React is a revolutionary electrochromic lens technology designed to adapt to environments in a matter of seconds with the simple touch of a button. Prizm React creates one lens for all possible on mountain conditions with three Prizm lens tint options offered through a single lens:

Prizm Rose for snow and overcast conditions
Prizm Torch Iridium for sun to overcast conditions
Prizm Black Iridium for bright sun to mixed conditions
With with three lens tint options – nothing gets in the way of being on the mountain all day, rain or shine.

Also the Harmony Fade will branch out to the Goggles as mentioned earlier

That is for the regular Harmony Fade collection which drops today. Made the mistake of reading the Facebook comments, and I think I shaved a few years off my life.

I assume this will be a technology equivalent to the tinted/clear glass thing with an electric current maintaining the glass tinted until it's switched off and become clear again.
Same technology applied in the car mirror switching automatically from day to night mode.
Sounds cool and more appropriate than photochromic technology for fast action sports.

Similar to the displays used in calculators maybe.

I’ll just be impressed to see three tints on one lens. Makes me wonder how they will change the Iridium coating. My understanding is these electro-lenses (assuming that’s what Oakley’s version is) changes the base lens like photochromatic lenses but I don’t know if I’ve heard of any that change a physical mirror coating (not that I’ve reasearched it anyway). Unless Torch Iridium and Black Iridium have the same mirror coating, that is.

"The new Prizm React (pictured above) allows you to press a button to change how dark the lens is. There is no external battery pack with this and each charge lasts 2 weeks of everyday use. Additionally, Prizm Inferno technology was introduced to combat lens fog- at the push of a button, the goggle goes through a 3 minute evenly distributed heating cycle which causes any fog to evaporate."

Hmm - As soon as he said it was battery powered my heart dropped.

This will go like the Thump and Pace. It'll fade away IMHO.

It probably has to be, but with a week or two on a charge, hopefully it's not too much of a hassle.

Yeah - let's hope so...

I would love to see the idea really take off across the whole sports range. Fingers crossed :)

One of the reasons Oakley electronics aren’t especially successful nowadays is the price point compared to alternatives. I'm surprised the Thump did decent despite its high cost of entry. The Prizm React could do well. The Fall Line is $160 compared to the Fall Line Prizm React at $299. Probably cheaper than getting 2 extra Iridium replacement lenses. Now the question is if most people actually need 3 lenses.

Makes me wonder why Oakley has never put photochromic lenses on snow goggles.
Or did they ?!

BTW, I did a little research and it appears that UVEX made a first version of that concept 10 years ago.

Oakley has been testing this for A LONG time. The issue was always optical quality that stopped it from happening.

SHOEI helmet also released photochromic motor cycle helmet shield last year. I think that it would be wonderful to release motor cycle helmet shield at oakley. I thought about it for over 10 years.
