July 27, 2017, Foothill Ranch, California: Today, Oakley and VICIS announced the launch of the VICIS EDGE Shieldâ„¢ by Oakley, developed exclusively for VICIS ZERO1. Engineered to enhance performance and optimize safety, the EDGE Shield is the first ever co-developed football optics system.

Looking to complete the most technologically advanced football helmet ever designed, VICIS sought out a leader in the optics industry, Oakley. The two brands, both built on innovation and sports performance, collaborated on research and development, adding Oakley’s leading performance innovations and quality optics to ZERO1, a highly engineered football helmet that earned the top rank in 2017 NFL/NFLPA tests. Rooted in Oakley’s 40-year history in innovation and rigorous safety tests that set the brand apart, the VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley is designed to complement the wide field of view of the ZERO1 and improve clarity and contrast for the player.

Leveraging new manufacturing tools and software, including a new freeform approach to High Definition Optics® (HDO), the EDGE Shield by Oakley was exclusively engineered for ZERO1, allowing the brand to create an optically correct shield to match the unique shape of ZERO1 facemasks. The ZERO1 offers the widest field of view of any football helmet on the market – nearly the limit of human peripheral vision.

‘Oakley’s collaboration with VICIS is a testament to the brand’s belief that everything can and will be made better” said Ryan Saylor, Oakley Vice President of Advanced Product Development. “Extending our leading optics technology to another field allowed us to create the highest performance football shield for the highest performance helmet. We are excited to see the impact that it will have on the game of football and athlete’s performance and safety.”

The VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley will be the only football shield available with Oakley Prizm, a revolutionary lens technology that has turned eyewear into vital equipment for sports. Prizm is engineered to dramatically enhance detail and help improve performance by providing ultra-precise color tuning, designed for specific environments. The VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley is molded out of Oakley’s high impact Plutonite®, a proprietary synthetic material that blocks 100% of harmful UV rays and helps protect athlete’s eyes during games and training.

“We saw an opportunity to partner with Oakley to help players elevate their performance via improved optics”, said Dave Marver, VICIS CEO and Co-founder. “Our goal is that athletes wearing a ZERO1 will benefit from industry-leading field of view, enhanced optical clarity and better protection.”

The VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley will be offered in Prizm and non-Prizm configurations. In September 2017 the VICIS EDGE Shield by Oakley will be distributed by VICIS directly to teams and can be ordered online at www.vicis.co.

New tint of Prizm turning up every day it seems:

The Edge Shield’s unique freeform shape affords players an unmatched peripheral field of view, while PRIZM lens technology boosts their color contrast on the field. Players were able to choose between PRIZM Gridiron, PRIZM Grey and PRIZM clear depending on their personal preference. After the demo period we received a ton of feedback on the shield in the form of an online survey the players were given.

EDIT:

Nevermind me. We have seen Prizm Gridiron. I just forgot about it:

Also, is Prizm Clear for football shields = Prizm Low Light for sunglasses?

It looks like Prizm Clear and Prizm Low Light are the same, at least relatively speaking. Perhaps they are similar in the way that football shild Grey and Shield Light Grey were lighter than their sunglass counterparts, but essentially filling the same spot.
