Car brands are doing some interesting stuff with eyewear. Maybach is doing cool things, even if their designs are derivative. Mclaren Vision is another exciting brand. It is licensed and manufactured by L’Amy. Mclaren’s initial offering a few years ago was cool because of their 3D printed titanium annd interesting hinge mechanism on some models.
They recently released a limited edition (limited to 25 pieces worldwide) for £5,000. It is basically a 3D printed unibody frame. They claim it is the first titanium eyewear frame 3D printed as one piece. Not exactly an exciting claim, but the piece does look like a cool sculpture:
The sculpted-ness reminds me of the stuff Oakley used to do on their wires (minus the floating lenses). Interesting stuff. Spectacle Factory in the UK got #1/25 and was sold to someone in Belgium. #2 is still available, I think.
