I can't be the only one that has noticed this but I was looking through all of my old bags from the white label to the current HDO bags. The grain on the older bags is much finer and soft than the newer ones. They seem to take fingerprints off lenses way better. Am I crazy or do you see what I mean? If you hold the different gen bags to the light you can see the grain is much coarser on the newer ones.

Yep, you're right. The material used has been evolving through the years. I don't notice any difference in cleaning ability, however.

I remember the black ones transitioning around 2006-2007. They really lost a lot of functionality. Making things worse, the buttondown 2.0 also changed and wasn't nearly as comfortable.

I have noticed this. However i think ALL the brown bags that luckily seem to have gone now sucked the worst for cleaning!

Bags now are mainly for storage while the old ones used to say to clean your lenses only with bag provided. The new ones merely wipe fingerprint and skin oils all over, rather than remove. I keep a high grade fine micrfiber towel in my car just for cleaning my lenses since I can't count on the Oak bags. The weight is night and day different too. I will have to drag out my little scale and weigh the original grey bag (full size) vs the black (with grey striped tag) vs the black (hdo lil tag) and see what the results are. I think they stopped making bags that say "plutonite lens should only be cleaned with provided sunglass bag" on the grey striped tag bags as well. I have a red one that has that on the tag right in front of me.

That is exactly right. It seems like the newer bags to me just spread oil all over the lenses.

Oakley makes large microfiber cloths that work like a charm. They're roughly a square foot big and they feel just like the Elite microfiber bags. They definitely do a better job than the standard microfiber bag.

Yeah, I know. I'm pretty sure that these are unavailable for purchase and were only provided to stores for use and not for resale.

This is exactly the reason I have a pile of the old Pro M-Frame bags. I don't even try to clean with the new ones. (The old ones work great on camera lenses too.)

As and when I pick up bags from old x-metals they always get put to one side for regular use. The new ones I use for storage/display.
