Well the season has officially begun. First clutch dropped yesterday.

Was this girl

with this boy

Bought him for quite a bit two years ago, and got the female in order to produce more of the same. The girl has a Recessive Stripe gene, and the male has the same but also a reduced pattern dominant gene like below

So since both have the visual recessive, all offspring will have it, and 50% will have the reduced pattern thrown in. Basically half will be like the male, and half like the female. Odds won't always be like that, but in this case, they are.

Here is how I found her the other day

Then yesterday

The darker, smaller one is a slug, but since it's stuck, I can't do much about it.

cool, how many snake babies do you normally have per year or season? and do you sell most of the babies?

we became rabbit breeders by accident when i was a kid, and the local pet shop where we bought our only rabbit paid us a fortune for every baby.

I was betting on 4 eggs per snake, so the 5 good ones is a nice surprise. Got two more that should lay later this month, and another two that are promising. Will have to sell most to settle debts, but will keep anything that will in turn make the following years better in terms of genetic stock. You are your own best customer at times.

Babies can range from $10-100,000, but I'm hoping to be in thw $100-1000 area.

Well breeding didn't turn out like I expected. Had some serious humidity issues that I fixed on the final clutch, but the first three resulted in some smaller than normal eggs by the end. However we did get our first hatchling out of the egg and seems to be doing well.

Just cut open the eggs from the next clucth which was from a female I got cheap on the chance that she didn't have the genetics she could possibly have. However not only did she prove that she did in fact have those genes, 3 of 4 eggs ended up with them, so major score.

Are the spots on the outside of the eggs or is that the coloration showing through?

Outside. Just general discoloration, happens to most of them, and isn't generally an issue. I held a flashlight to them all, and each has veins, so they should all be okay.

Male first, female second. Both photos are from when they were younger, so they're a bit darker now.
