I am a big sports-specific model user/collector and still have yet to come up with a good idea for all of my spare lenses. I wear most all of my Flaks, Radars, and Jawbones and probably have 4 times as many lenses as I do frames....and I switch them in and out almost daily based on what I want to wear at any given time.
The problem, is that I have lenses laying all over the place - loosely sitting in cases, on top of my cube, etc.
What do you guys use? Maybe a jeweler's case of some sort? Something designed for multiple watches? Any help would be greatly appreciated - I need ideas on how to protect these things when I'm not using them!
My first thought is to maybe check out some custom foam options. Since the actual lens cases use the foam with slots for lenses, I can imagine just getting some blocks of foam, even if you don't have the aluminum case, would be pretty cool and the most functional for you.
I was thinking about doing something along those lines...but I would have to make it more "professional" looking :) I'm a bit obsessive that way, and would have an issue with a bunch of lenses laying around loosely (like I do now). One thing I would be interested in, is some kind of case though - it keeps dust, etc. off of the lenses when they aren't being worn. So, jeweler's case of some sort. I'll keep looking....
You might be able to find some kind of hardware drawer to fit lenses, like something you would store spare nuts and bolts in. I don't think I've seen any big enough for a Radar lens, but maybe Flaks.
There is the old O lens case and lens displays that you can still buys on sleazebay. That would allow you to display them and see what your looking for when swapping.
I've been searching eBay and haven't been able to find any of the storage cases (save for a couple that people think they're getting $275+ for). If anyone has one of these that they aren't using, please let me know!
For my half jackets, I use a customized electronics box. The lower part I ripped out the foam and replaced it with slotted foam to hold 18 sets of lenses. The top part "trap door" works great for holding up to 8-10 frames(w/o lenses) and about 4-5 micro bags.
