hello,

in a few days i will receive my latest purchase - gascan tron HDO-3D ...

for summertime i will change the lenses to ice or blue irid ... i found some on the bay from VL (visionary lenses) also in polarized ...

- which size fits? for normal gascan or gascan s?
- knows someone this lenses? if yes how is the quality?

I prefer real oakley lenses, but does not exist, right?

There's an easier way that has been mentioned somewhere before.

Buy a Polished Black pair and just change the arms, why hassle with the lens fitment as it's different to normal Gascans.

I have two pair of the tron, one with the 3d lenses and put vl lenses in the other, ice blue. Love them.

HDO, XYZ, Impact Resistance ... do not forget Oakley lenses properties. They are part of what makes Oakley sunglasses so awesome.

@mike = to change the lenses should be no problem or is the gascan tricky?

@stephen = so the quality of the VL replacement lenses are good? also the polarized

btw. looks really nice =) ...

@francois = oakley does not offer ice or blue replacement lenses for gascan, right?

Nop, I personnaly swapped the earstems of the TRON with orbitals of a Burnquist Gascan and finally put some HI Yellow lenses in it. HI Yellow lenses are still available as replacement lens for Thump 2 (same size).

Overall, I'm happy with the VL lenses. The quality and clarity seems fairly good. I don't know for sure, but I'm fairly certain the impact protection probably isn't as good, but if that's not a concern, you can't go wrong with them. Plus, they are polarized and that is a plus.

On a side note, I didn't know that Oakley had stopped making ice lenses as a replacement lens for the Gascan????

The HDO-3D lenses are spherical, whereas the normal ones are Toric (cut from a single shield). That's why it's a better idea to swap stems.

Looks like Ice Gascan lenses are available from o.com to me. That would be my choice over VL lenses any day - polarized or not. While I have done plenty of wacky things to frames over the past couple of years, I have still held on to the notion of never messing with authentic oakley lenses.

For what it's worth, I ended up snagging just a set of 3D lenses and putting them in one of my gascan frames recently. While there is a general ability to put regular lenses in 3D frames and 3D lenses in regular frames ... it does appear the 3D lenses are not as friendly to multiple frame swaps. The 3D lenses do seem to have a more delicate outer layer on the lens - that started to give a bit on the corner where I did my final 'snap' as I put them into the frame.

+1 Dann. The grooves that the lens sit in on TRON (and 3d gascan) are inset towards your eyes about 0.5mm further at the lower portion of the orbital to accomidate the sphereical lenses. There is probably a different curvature at the top portion as well, but its hard to tell.

That said, you can still fit standard gascan lenses (not asian or -s) into a 3d gascan frame. I tested with a spare set of gray gascan lenses, wore them out for a day or so and had no issues. There is tad bit of distortion, but I don't believe its going to cause headaches even over a long period of time. I did not do the laser test to check how much image shift occurs.

If its personally an issue, swap the earstems to a standard black frame front.

what the hell is a VL lens?? is that another one of the sh!t aftermarket sellers on ebay like the guy up north exovista, or linegear? This are all total crap, hands down!! optics of junk, lens material is sub par, and the never ever fit as they are supposed to. You can say what you want, but I have first hand tried some to see how they compare, and they are poo poo!!! poor bevels, always have gaps and light peek, and aren't worth the time to install them. Do what you prefer, but if it's as simple as an orbital swap to stay real, that's a NO BRAINER...

They seems better than the keystone lenses, but I personally would rather chop an Oakley lens.

I agree 100%...only Oakley for Oakley...I mean really, that is what Oakley is about..why pay top dollar for an Oakley shade to toss in a gas station quality lens??

I definitely prefer Oakley lenses over any other lenses. However, I liked the blue/ice coating on the VL lenses better because they matched the Trons. I get what you're saying, but honestly, the VL lenses are a fairly good product. They are not as good as Oakley, no question, but I went that route on the Tron for the look. I have two pair of Tron, one has the VL blue lenses and the others have the 3d lenses. The fit and edges is very good, no issues there. To each their own, and I stay with Oakley for most everything. However, for this particular project, I chose to go with the VL and I am actually happy about it.

Personally, Ice would have been a much better choice than some aftermarket cheapo lenses.

Ah thats what I thought you were referring to, but honestly, theres no need to start having tantrums just as soon as folk disagree with you.

This is quite a close knit community forum, with a lot of long term hardcore collectors, and for the most part, we all get along great, even though everyone has different views, they are respected.

No tantrum here. Just saying we all have opinions, im secure with mine. Not to mention i had my local o store employee put the ice lenses in the tron and they didnt seem to fit properly due to the above mentioned reasons.

Thanks, i actually really like the forum. Again, im very true to the Oakley brand but im cool with the VL lenses in the Tron Gascan. I like them alot and thats what matters to me.

ANd they all stink.

;)

It's all good gentlemen. Some of us prefer custom cuts, some of us like aftermarket lenses. To each his own.
