i like the Why 8.1 lens shape more than the 8.0, it's the way the lenses taper back torwards the earstems, which itself are nicely sculpted. the rimless design itself look very upscale and dressy. the build quality didn't seem as tight and solid as Why 3 though, they creak everytime i put them on and take them off.

the Black Chrome/Ice combo looks great, just enough attitude to offset the dressy look, but the pair i bought had mismatching lenses... one side was bluer than the other. bad quality control on Oakley's part.

i returned the Black Chrome/Ice, but the store didn't have another pair, so i settled for the Brown/VR28 Black Iridium combo. the lenses look great, and have a great tint, but the overall combo is very conservative. i liked the fact that the Black Chrome/Ice has a great compromise of looks and attitude, something the Brown/VR28 Black is sorely missing.

Very, very cool glasses. I was suspicious of rimless lenses but on trying them on the glasses look very cool, and are a nice move away from more traditional Oakley styles. I particularly like the detail on the arms, though I think the nose bridge design could possibly be improved slightly.

Was deciding between these and the Dartboards. Bought the Dartboards, but they always stuck in my mind. so took the plunge. I really like the dressy feel, and use them a more formal or neat casual affairs. Always like the black iridium as for me it works really well in the west Australian Sunlight - Worth the Bucks

This is a pair of glasses that is very striking visually, but I am still scared of them. Rimless Oakleys seems to be asking for it, but all of the new wire styles are too narrow.

That said, I still bought them because they are a classy style. Initially I was irritated by seeing the bridge in the corner of my vision, but that went away after wearing them for about an hour. They are quite light and comfortable.

Note that these will likely require a case, and none of my other Oakley cases fit them (the Vault, small zipper case). This is because of the hinge construction: these have a similar hinge as the Juliets--the glasses are about 0.75 inches wider when you fold them up. So I got another case, which was a bit irritating.

Re: Black Chrome/Ice Iridium

I've always wanted a pair of Oakley's because of their quality, and proven durability. But since I was spending good money on a pair, I wanted one that I could use in all occasions, many of the styles are pretty sporty. The Wire series does the trick, and this new WHY 8.1 line happens to look sporty and classy at the same time. Also they seem to fit my very wide head fairly well which is great because many of the other Wires (and nonWire models) are just too narrow. I did choose the Ice Iridium lens for some Bling factor, but the satiny dark chrome and conservative shape allow me to wear these glasses without feeling out of place even with coworkers, family in more serious settings.
