Frame/Lens: Black Chrome/Black Iridium; Matte Black/Amber Black Iridium Polarized

My first pair of these were the standard black iridium lens, which are quite a classy and dressy pair of sunglasses but other than that, pretty boring. Comfortable (when properly adjusted - otherwise the nose bridge can pinch!), lightweight but surprisingly solid feeling given the frameless construction. The mountings on these are different from the older WHY3 in that the screws through the lenses use a grommet which allows some flex at the joint before trying to bend the lens itself, making them less fragile. It may be the way I have the nose bridge adjusted on this pair but I find there's a lot of light leakage over the top of the lenses, they just seem to sit a bit low. Apart from that the lenses are very wide and very rectangular, and very wraparound with pretty good coverage. Wider or flatter faces may not suit these glasses because of the degree of wrap.

The second pair were the ABIP which seem to be about as common as the Holy Grail - it took me nearly 3 years to track down a pair which turned out to be near mint. These sit differently on the face for some reason and I don't get so much light leakage over the top. The ABIP lenses are odd to look at and bizarre to look through, but I prefer them over the BI in these glasses - they just add that touch of Oakley weirdness. They also work better in this frame than in my other pair of ABIPs which are Crosshair 1... not sure why but it may be due to the greater effective coverage on my particular face, less leakage of unfiltered external light means that the eye/brain doesn't interpret the visual field as so yellow relative to the unfiltered light but still gets the benefit of the contrast tweak.

It's a pity that there aren't any more 'interesting' lens options for these glasses - an Ice or Emerald Polarised or a VR50 or VR50 Emerald would suit the frame nicely I think, but short of a custom cut (but from which base lens??) that's not going to happen. The fit seems a bit variable and they're not the easiest glasses to adjust, but once adjusted they are great and very eye-catching in the right frame/lens combo. I tend to baby mine a bit given they're now effectively irreparable if damaged.

Frame: Matte Black
Lens: Black Gradient

Summary - well made, not really effective in the brightest of sunlight, classy, crying out for polarization.

Having bought one pair of these glasses and been impressed so much I bought another pair the same a few days later from the same place. I then found something unexpected - the second pair had a different lens tint to the first. The first pair were a 2005 model, came in the black Oakley outer box and were most definitely 'black / black gradient', the second pair were from 2006 and came in the yellow Oakley box - these are definitely browner in colour and could probably be described as brown-clear gradient (the nearest tint I have to compare them to is probably Titanium). The difference is obvious enough to be able to tell which pair I'm looking at/through individually without comparing them side by side. The light transmission is the same for both pairs. I'd agree with the Cat 2 rating for these glasses and the other reviews that say these are a bit too 'light' for use in very bright sun, but other than that they're awesome - gorgeous to look at, well made and surprisingly sturdy. Very good for driving. But come on Oakley, resurrect this SKU, give us a darker, useable non-iridium black gradient - grey lens and a polarized option to boot.

Wow o wow, why 8,2s are by far my favourite WHY frame. so when i saw these customs with this amazing lens, i had to have them. Ive been desperate for a purpley contrast lens and this is it.
Now i have a pair of smart wires for overcast days aswell as the amber black polars for the serious sunny ones.
the black chrome frame just looks sooo good on a wire frame.

Frame: Black Chrome
Lens: Black Iridium

Simply put, the coolest pair of glasses I've ever seen and, thanks to e-bay, ever worn. They're lightweight and fit perfectly, no adjustment necessary.

I adore rimless frames, and to me this is the king of the hill. Sophisticated, with a hint of aggression (thanks to the mirrored black lenses), these will be my go-to pair for just about any occasion. Love 'em.

The only negative I can think of applies to all rimless frames: They're not for sports, period. They lack the integrity to stand up to abuse. I can hardly fault 'em for that, though, seeing as how that's not what they're designed for in the first place.

This is my second pair of Why 8.2's (the other being the polarized amber black iridium/matte black combo), and likely won't be my last. (I've been looking for an excuse to pick up a gradient lense anyway.)

By far one of the best pairs of Oakleys made. Lightweight, full-coverage, and incredibly classy.

I can't stress enough how much I love these. Looks great with a suit, as well as just casual clothes. Perfect.

I barely ever even feel them on my face while wearing them and since theyre rimless, I never see them either.

Frame: Matte Black
Lens: Black-Clear Gradient

I'm usually very skeptical about rimless glasses and its hard to keep an open mind when I try these on but these Why's are awesome. They are extremely light weight and the eye coverage is excellent. I thought for sure the fit would be bad, but these fit very well on my big head. The black-clear gradient was an added bonus. Awesome pair to wear on an outdoor formal occasion.

Frame:Matte Black
Lens:Amber Black Iridium Polarized

Have been wanting this lens forever but never thought the other frames it came in looked that inspiring, so when it was done in these i knew i had to get them. id been wanting a WHY 8.2 since i tried the first combo on but knew they had to release some more interesting ones for me to eventually get them.
same comments as before about the glasses, the combo of matte black and the Amber Black Iridium Polarized lens look spectacular.

Frame: Brown
Lens: Bronze Polarized

A very classy pair of shades that look good from afar, but look downright amazing up close: the amount of detail is outstanding in an pair so minimalist.

The biggest problem with the glasses is that they don't grip my temples much, even with the unobtanium, which means that more weight is on my nose than I'd prefer. I also had to spend an unreasonable amount of time adjusting them to get them to fit well. Also, because they are dressier sunglasses, they don't dress down too well, but that's just nitpicking.

like Dan-E i wasn't too entirely impressed with the Why 8,2 the first time i tried it on... perhaps it was the gradient lenses that i tried them with. i also wasn't too sure with the unabashed, overly rectangular lens shape, but i guess i can also attribute the overall look to those gradient lens. when i first saw the Matte Black/Amber Black Iridium Polarized Why 8.2 at the local O-Store, they looked absolutely stunning... one try and i had to get them. you could never go wrong with Oakley's Matte Black frames (i love how the O Icon stands out on Matte Black frames) and the Amber Black Iridium Polarized lenses adds to a great look. my friends call these my Agent Smith sunglasses, and i can't disagree.

Frame: Brown
Lens: Bronze Polarized

I wasn't too enamored with the 8.2 when I first tried them, but that was due to the gradient lens. Now that I've tried the Bronze Polarized, I think these just might be my favorite of the Why series. They're a little bigger than the other two but not ridiculously large. The main difference is that they're slightly wider to fit rounder heads.

Frame: any
Lens: any

Why 8.2 looked great sitting on the shelf of my local OPD display, but looked a bit ridiculous when i put them on. must be the oversized and rectangular lenses, but i thought the Why 8.0 and 8.1 lens shape is better suited for a wider range of faces. but if the 8.2 suits you, all the power to you. as for the build quality, it's pretty much the same as all the Why 8.X series, that is they're rimless, so they're a bit more fragile than other frames.

Frame: Matte Black
Lens: Black gradient

I was surprised to find these at some random eyewear store in a mall, especially since these were the only Why models in stock, so I had to try them on. I never tried the 8.2 before and I didn't have any other Whys to compare it to so I can't say if it fit better or worse. I can say that they fit surprisingly well. There's enough flex designed into the frame to sit comfortably on even large-headed people, though I'm not sure whether or not they'd start to feel like they're pinching after a while. The shape of the lens is nice too. The only thing I didn't care for was the gradient lens. They weren't bad or anything but I just tend to prefer a solid shade.

Frame:Polished Gold
Lens:Bronze

very very slick, so much nicer than the WHY 8.0 version. i would have probably got these if they came with the VR50 gold lens like their little brother.
these are bigger and better than the other WHYs and im just glad they decided to bring out some more colour combos, i think though i will have ot go with the Brown/Bronze polar combo in this model.
LEX7 -
Frame:Black Chrome
Lens:Black Iridium

these are boring.
they are slightly bigger and more square than the why 3 but they look a little too big.
i have no idea why these were only released in one colour.
i might have considered these if they came in some different colourways.

Frame: Black Chrome
Lens: Black Iridium

These came into my UK dealer this week - very, very smart sunglasses. I wouldn't usually go for a rimless glass but these are really nice, and fit well. I especially like the arm detail. I just can't get used to the rimless design though.

*drool* After trying them on, I think these are a slam dunk must buy. A fantastic new look from the Why wire series, very Matrix-like. Light, comfortable, and some sweet squared elongated lenses.

Frame: Black Chrome
Lens: Black Iridium

Out of all the wire 8 series, this one fits me the best. My only concern is that I'm still not entirely convinced of the structural integrity of three piece Oakley frames, but as far as shame goes this one is my top choice. I'd suggest this one for individuals who like a more overt rectangular shape.
