I was just looking for some opinions on which lens is preferred. Emerald has been out for quite sometime and has evolved/changed like most lens colors do over the years. So I guess my question is how different are they from each other? I don't have both lenses but have been wanting to get a pair with Emerald for years. I do have a pair with Jade and do like that tint. Is Emerald is still a worthy option with Jade being in the mix these days? Is there a big enough difference to have both?
Stats-wise, Jade is 17% & Emerald is 13%, thus a lil' darker.
Both are neutral lenses with a grey base color.
The green of Jade is a lil' more ''neon'' than Emerald.
(closer to G26 for sure)
I believe Jade will keep spreading from sports frames to lifestyle pieces such as Fuel Cell...but Emerald seems to stay away from sports frames (though it is a goggle lens).
When there was such a classification as ''Premium Iridium'', Emerald was one of the 4 with Ti, Ruby & Fire.
For me I prefer Emerald as I find it classier.
I find it a lil' bit more special for some reason.
Though I must say I like both, and gladly have a few Jade sets here & there.
Yeah, I'm in a lot of agreement with Freesh. Jade is much more greener, while Emerald always seems to be green with a hint of silver going on. Looking through each, I would personally choose Emerald over Jade hands-down. Emerald has one of my favorite neutral bases to look through - there is just something extra-calming about looking through Emerald. Jade is pretty nice, but I swear it has a tendancy to give some gradient hues towards the ends of the lens (like Violet and Fire tend to do as well).
I've not used emerald only Jade. I have to say i think Jade is pretty crap for mountain biking, when you dive into the woods i have problems picking up details on the trail
I like the appearance of Jade more than the newer Emerald. I feel a few years ago the batches of Emerald that would come out were top-notch and very nice to look at. Now emerald has a bit of Olive green to it, which I can't say I'm a fan of. Then again I wear bright colors because I like to get noticed from time to time. haha :-D
I didn't used to like Emerald, but recently has grown on me. The pair that did it for me was a Carbon/Emerald Juliet. The things were smooth. Since then, I've bought replacement lenses for my Eyepatch and Hijinx. The replacement lens option is a cheap and easy way to determine if you dig em. However, keep in mind that emerald looks best with black, metal, and x-metal frames.
Jade has a much more brilliant vibrant green colour. Emerald is a more subdued tone.
However, there have been changes in both. I've seen Emerald go from a green/gold kind of tint, and also a green/silver kind of look. It's always been a very neutral grey to look through (Which I really prefer)
Jade started out more of a bright green, but I'm now seeing more and more instances of purple/violet on the edges. It also started out very much like positive red to look through, being very even in tones, but now is more like ruby, where you get a bit of a colour shift at the outer edges.
I'm not using them for sports, I'm only using them for daily wear, but when it's brighter out, I go with the emerald in general, and when it's not as bright, I'll go with the Jade.
Emerald has changed over the years. When it was first introduced as a SGH exclusive in a Plasma Juliet frame, it was much more of a dark forest green with gold hues to it. Recently, it seems to be a bit more of a vibrant green that stays true to the name of the lens itself. To look through I find it very pleasant on the eyes and I find it really accentuates a blue sky well. Jade seems to be Oakley's answer to provide a "street legal" G26 lens and seems to fit Oakley's current push towards bright, neon style colors.
