I called Oakley and told them I was sending my Mars in because I wanted them to tighten the nose bridge because it's lose and put in the ruby lenses that I got from a friend of mine, god I'm so grateful to him. They had like one small scratch on them but they were just laying around in his boxes full of Oakley parts. They told me no prob, we'll put it under warranty and they'll take care of it.
I thought....ok, cool.
I call about a week later and ask how the progress is going. Originally when I spoke to the person on the phone, I said I don't want the nose bombs, temple shocks or ear socks replaced and IF they can't fix them I want them back the way they are because I don't want them getting ground up.
He proceeds to tell me that there were instructions to not change any parts if it was needed. I said no, I said don't change any of the rubbers on them, they were just replaced. He then tells me that the Tech is not going to open them up and look at them because it may get extensive and there are no replacement parts for them. But right before that he tells me that he can probably go in and tighten the screws up and they should be good but you won't have new bushings inside. So then it just turned into a big run around on the phone and I told themt ot just change the lenses and ship them back to me.

So the question is can they be tightened up or not?
I thought I read somewhere that they have the same kind of connection that the Juliets have and the parts intercjanged in the nose bridge?

If there's anyone on OR skilled and equipped to tune-up X-Metals, I for one won't mind paying them to service my Juliets, Pennys, Mars or XXs. Maybe we do need to develop and support our own aftermarket service unit.
(Just to clarify, I personally possess no such skills or equipment myself. Being able to successfully switch lenses on Romeo 1.0s or Juliets is enough cause for celebration in my case. I'm that inapt.)

Well, I got my Mars back yesterday from Oakley.
I thought it was a quick turnaround and was pleased.
Now going through the phone calls and them telling me that they won't be able to tighten the nose section and the tech won't even open them up to try to tighten them because it could get very time consuming and they don't have bushings or couplers for the Mars anymore.
To my suprise when I open the box, they were like a new pair of Mars. They were as tight as my new X-Squared!!!!!!
I was so freakin happy when I seen that!!!
So there must be a way for them to tighten them w/o taking them apart??
Maybe they peen the rivets more to make them tighter???
Does anyone know??

From what I remember, there's some old threads aroudn here about it, it's not just peening the rivets. There's a rubber piece on the inside. They have dropped in or modified a juliet piece to put in there.

The post i'm referring to had someone using a bit of a rubber band to put in there. IDR, if there was anything published about the acutal process of removing the rivets and putting them back in.

Check the projects section, it might be there.

What floors me is that I argured/discussed with 3 different employees about it and they all told me that nothing would be done about it. Don't get me wrong, I am VERY VERY pleased with how they came back. I would just really really like to know how it was done if it wasn't taken apart.

Oakley's always had a bit of an issue with communication on the operational level (from only what I've seen/heard), but they get the job done when needed. I wouldn't be surprised if they simply replaced the Mars. frame, even if they're not known for replacing the stems to retain the serial number.

That's amazing work! Crazy that he's able to get it close to factory spec with minimal scratches.

...with minimal scratches
Considering the method and tools used, I'd say it's a miracle ! haha ^_^ ... but the job is done

If anyone here masters that technique, you'll have my business provided, of course, you don't charge Oakley tune-up prices!!! LOL.
