Inspired by what I saw on the "recent purchases" thread, I decided to follow the lead of another member and add an O to my Jawbone BT headset.

Originally, I had wanted to pop out an icon from a pair of crosshair glasses, but I found the icon to be too small. I took a look at some of the golf Polo's, specifically the "Tactical polo" and found the icon to be a bit smaller than the jawbone.

I removed the icon by prying off the rivets on the back of the icon and pulling it off the shirt. The icon is attached via two "rivets" and a backing plate. The rivets are attached to the icon itself and poke two sizeable holes into the shirt. The shirt is not wearable after you remove the icon.

I used a razorblade to cut off the "posts" and sanded the back surface with 220 grit sandpaper. Then I bent the icon, which is metal into a similar curvature as the jawbone. Since it's not designed to be displayed curved, there was some minor creasing in the thin part of the O.

I then affixed it to the jawbone with Lock-Tite's two stage Super Glue for plastic.

After I did this, I used some sandpaper to remove the excess superglue. Unfortunatley, in the process, I scratchd up the icon. So I finished sanding it. The original finish was a black chrome, but dull chrome/bronze finish. The new sanded finish was a bit more shiny.

Tonight, I finished polishing it, first with TC6, then with Jewler's Rouge. Shined it right up.

Now it's bold and quite unmistakably "O".

BUT, i got the residue all over the jawbone. I'm still trying to clean it off. LEsson learned, polish first, then affix.

use contact cement next time..No hazing residue like superglue leaves..cool though. does it hinder the sound of the jawbone?

I really didn't have hazing that i could see. I just had a bunch of crud that i wanted to get rid of. Thanks for the compliments. That being said, what kind of contact cement? This was stuff specific to plastic.

There s no impact on the sound quality. the "switch" is on the otherside of the jawbone. The microphone hole is on the tip.

I will probably get Avery ear pieces to make me a custom earpiece that will incease sound quality and let me get rid of the metal ear loop.

I like Barge Contact Cement. Most hardware stores have it or ebay. The stuff is tough when it cures, but has a bit of elasticity to it, so it flexes enough to not have a problem.

Cool prject, its fun to personalize regular items and turn them into Oakley ones. I like the new finish, good job, hope the sticker stay on it (as it should)

Thanks, eric. Only issue I have now is i think I broke it. The whole speaker housing justpops off really easy now when I put it on. might definitely have to go with the avery custom ear piece so i'm not wrenching it around..
