Bamboo, Cork, Wood, precious stones (including diamonds of course)...yup, gonna be VERY interesting, and think about the prestige boost to the company's image when such pieces kick in.
BLOCline is all about the limited pieces designed or inspired by the work of artists, musicians and the likes. It includes artwork on the frame and/or special materials and paterns found in the icon.
From what I gather, Shaun White's Frio will have some artwork on it, but it will be considered ''another'' LE Signature Series, which isn't exactly corresponding to what BLOC is all about. I could be wrong as this was not confirmed yet, but that's the gist of it.
Must say, I'm really happy and proud that Oakley is actually focusing on eyewear with the release of key models such as the Hijinx, Flak and Radar, along with segmenting each line so that is part of a defined story.
Anybody remember how the website (oakley.com) was set up a few months after o-review was created ? there was Wire, Overthetop, O Matter, Jackets, Frogskins, X-Metal, Zero...and I'm skipping a few...it was hard to follow ! But now, everything seems to be much better defined by specific caracteristics.
And, not only have they re-arranged their lines, but they made them so much deeper and meaningful so that people actually want to associate with a certain line or another. People who dig SQUARE O will most likely pick most of their sunglasses from that line, same for High-End Wires, X-Metal, etc....we already hear things such as : ''After wearing my Nanowire 2.0 for two weeks, I refuse to ever wear something that is not Polarized-Hydrophobic-Titanium again!''
I think SQUARE O and BLOC are the coolest because it comes back to the core, the athletes, the ''different and unique'' factor that has always differientiated Oakley from the others. Plus, the possibilities seem to be endless as we have already spoke about.
Sure Ducati's a great line. But compared to an Art Chantry ? a C100 ? THAT is what I call a Collector's Edition !
