Hi,

I got a Timebomb for Christmas. It's the old version with the hidden clasp and "F" serial number.

The problem I have is that if I don't wear it > it loses time.

If I wear the watch it performs perfectly. But it I let it sit for say aprx. 12 hours it starts losing time and goes into the "2 seconds" mode.

I don't know how much movement it takes to fully charge the lithium cell from a fully depleted state, but I feel like I should have done so by now.

Has anyone had a lithium cell "go bad"?

Any tips or suggestions based on experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
OShow

Trick is to wear it everyday for a few weeks, then you can go a little longer without wearing it. It uses a capacitor rather than a battery, so it will never die permanently. I had problems in the beginning leaving it overnight, but it went away shortly.

You need to wear it for a few days before it becomes fully charged, a fully charged timebomb should keep perfect time for up to 2 weeks without being worn.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Now when you say "wear it for a couple/few days" do you mean 24 hours a day?

Wear it for 24hours for a couple of days is just to assure the the watch gets some type of movement. My TimeBomb is so great that it went for 14 days just sitting before it completely discharged. But as mentioned, the catch is to wear it for a couple of days 24 hours a day.

The general idea is that you will need to wear it exclusively for the first week or two in order to give it a full charge to work from. If you take the die-hard approach and wear it 24/7, then I'm sure you'll reach a full charge that much sooner. :)

Like previously said, you shouldn't run into any issues in the future unless you leave it lying around for a couple of weeks. My Time Bomb worked great for 4 years until I left it at home while I was away for about 3.5 weeks (darn honeymoon!). It was drained when I got back and had to start at square one, much like you are now (where the initial charge doesn't seem to last very well).

Can't you buy a small swing like device to put the watch on that keeps it moving to charge the engine while you're not wearing it for extended periods?

You totally can! I certainly see them pretty often at watch / jewelry stores that sell inertia watches. You could probably find them online for sale (somewhere ... maybe your first QVC purchase) :)

I think they run a bit pricey. But you already have a $1500 watch an an Oakley obsession, so why let a little $$ stand in your way.

Cool. I'm gonna keep this bad boy on 24/7 for a few days! A watch winder might just be a worthwhile investment.

I've never needed something to keep the watch spinning. It should be fine after the first few weeks. I even took mine off at night and still was able to get a full charge within a week.

Yes it is but if you buy on Ebay, chances are you are buying an Oakley employee version. In which it does not come with a metal vault.

Check this previous thread when it first came in question.

I think the issue of vault vs. no vault may also be related to which generation time bomb you get. The version with the vault, I belive, also had the icon clasp and curved links. The version with the plastic box usually has the plain clasp and straight links. All of the versions I see "on sale" for around $500 tend to be the straight links/plain clasp (which, to me, isn't nearly as sweet as the other version).

I have a first gen and it came with the vault. My bet is ebay people are selling the vault seperately, peddling it as a 'rare' item.
