Local news did a segment on it recently and they said you should avoid any thing that looks to good to be true.

Isn't that the dream of all ebayers? To get those things they want for prices that are usually too good to be true compared to retail? I mean, I'm always looking for those mint Zero's with an incredibly low BIN. Looks like those days are over though.

Yeah, it went away for a lil while but it is surely back. The easiest way to tell is when they advertise Mars or gascan and have a picture of something not even related like Gucci glasses, wtf!

On the upside it makes it pretty easy to avoid.

You mean like a near mint in box Zero 0.2P?

Started on the UK site now - hundreds of listings for X-metals around £45... Such a shame.

A good way to see if the auction is for rael is to send a message to the seller by clicking on the "Ask seller a question" link. Ask them if the auction is for real or whatever you want, and shortly afterward - if it's indeed a scam - you will receive an "Alert" e-mail from eBay saying something like "you have tried to contact a member outside of eBay" or something like that. It takes a little time and effort, but it's worth it if you want to see if the item's for real or not, because once in a while it will be. That's how I got my used but mint Titanium Pewter/Titanium Iridium Square Wire 2.0 SH's for $66.75 (retail: $255).

I'm not sure I follow how that works. If the scammer has hijacked an account, won't he just reply via ebay PM saying "Yep, it's real!" ?

Or are you only talking about the 'buy it now' scams?

Hey,
I don't know if this would work or not. Would it help if before bidding or using BUY IT NOW you contacted eBay LIVE HELP and asked them if the auction was legit or not? They should be able to tell....shouldn't they?
