Any fan going to SDCC can get the exclusive version of the 2' Metroplex:

I keep going back and fourth on if I should get that SDCC exclusive (and this figure in general). I was all set to get it, until news came out that there would be a similar HK exclusive:

http://robotkingdom.com/services/eshop/main.php?action=details&CatType=&II=TF2013METROACG&lang=us

The HK exclusive has the same art on the box, it just wont have "SDCC" on it (might have something else written on it). The figure seems to have the same chrome plating and design, and to me it seems a little better since the miniatures are gold/silver painted instead of red/purple plastic miniatures in the SDCC version (whether it's worth the extra $$, not sure about that). There's too many versions of this dang figure already, that's at least 4 that I know of so far (SDCC, HK exclusive, normal Takara version, normal Hasbro version).

Yeah, the miniatures are definitely cooler on the HK version. IMO well worth the little more in MSRP to get them (though not sure how much more in shipping or secondary market pricing bump). Me, I'm probably just gonna get the normal Hasbro version. Just need the figure to put next to my G1 Metroplex for display.

Nice! Definitely will be an awesome display! If I get Metroplex, I'm not even sure where I would put him yet, haha.

Huuuuuuuggggggeeeeeee! That's all I have to say, haha. This is the only thing I could think of doing for now. Makes original mold Masterpiece Prime look itsy-bitsy, haha.

I ended up going with the SDCC version. The clincher was finding out the HK exclusive is #5/30, while the SDCC exclusive is #1/30. History wise, you can never really go wrong in getting the #1 of anything.

Thanks! There's so much good Transformers (toys in general) stuff coming out. I was never really an active buyer during Oakley's golden/silver years when there was constantly multiple things worth buying (too broke to own more than a pair at a time). I gotta imagine it kinda felt like the toy hobby feels right now.

Takara and Hasbro are finally concentrating on the Masterpiece line, and they're coming out with a lot stuff that in general targets adult collectors. The 3rd party Transformers companies have stepped up big time in recent times going directly after collectors (TFC, MMC, Fansproject etc). Add on Sideshow, Hot Toys and others constantly coming out with gems, and man, there's too many options! The toy hobby is going super strong right now, which is great, but oh so bad for the wallet, haha.

I just wish I had room for all this stuff.

Yea, after putting out the fire in the wallet, finding out where it's going to go is the next biggest problem, haha.

Are you taking it out of the box, or are you displaying it in it.

I'm eventually going to remove the outer box to reveal Metroplex in the inner secondary box. The inner box has a window that will display him without removing him, and that's how I'll keep him displayed (so I wont be opening him completely up and adding stickers, weapons and posing him etc). I will then keep the outer art box displayed next to him in his secondary box. I just have absolutely no room to do that right now, haha, so I'm going to keep the whole thing sealed up for a while. I like displaying my figures outside the box because light dust inside a case isn't really a problem with figures (don't have to worry about microscratches on delicate lenses like glasses), but Metroplex is a special case in that his packaging is meant for display, and I would not be too sure about free-standing stability with a two foot Transformer toy.

Good choice. They really considered both the displayability and collector value when they designed the packaging.

Love it! Congrats! I usually don't open much of my collectible figures/toys. So it's pretty ironic that this one comes packaged to display and I'm thinking about opening it when I get it.

Thanks! Once I see him through the window of the secondary box its going to be tough to resist trying to pose him, but I'm sure I'll leave him zip tied in there. I guess with my Masterpiece figures, since they all kind of go together, I like seeing them posed together with their weapons. Plus I enjoy looking at them every time I sit at my desk at home, and of course the oooo's and ahhh's of anybody else that sees them, haha. Metroplex is just kinda on his own level of size compared to any other modern designed Transformer (unless there's a modern Masterpiece/Titan Fortress Maximus coming out soon, haha).

A MP Fort Max would be something like 6 feet tall and cost $1,000. I'd gladly buy it....

$1,300 for a non-transforming Transformers. The world is crazy. That said, cool looking figure.

It is a nice figure, but craaaaazy price. The whole reason I love Transformers toys is because they...transform! I can only see that selling to the very hardcore Optimus collectors, and I think it would be more buying it to be complete rather than buying it because it's worth $1300. Any Masterpiece Optimus is a way better value and even though the internal details are cool (although not $1300 cool just for some pistons), not being able to transform just kills it (that's at least 50% of the coolness to Transformers toys). At $500-$600 it would still be expensive, but OK, but $1300, dang!

Anyway, I've recently added Masterpiece Prowl to my collection, and I think it's a very nice figure for the price (QC was what I expect for a Masterpiece on mine), can't wait for Smokescreen!

The detail on MP Prowl is awesome. I know they want to do everything in relative scale, but the new ones are getting smaller with every release. With MP Bumble Bee coming out, I wish they'd upscale a little. That said, I just got the TRU MP Soundwave package, and it's an amazing release for $120.

If I was a hardcore Optimus collector this would be must have. I actually love seeing what the inside of things look like or at least someone's interpretation. The link now has it listed for $979.99. So jump on it boys!

The TRU Soundwave package at retail is probably the best Masterpiece bang for the buck of all time. Wish I wasn't addicted to that Takara Masterpiece box, haha.
