Mike, How much did the emerald lenses cost you, and do you think they can do Romeo lenses?

For those who live in or near Philadelphia I found an optical shop in Narberth that will replace the lenses in any glasses with any Oakley prescription lenses colors.
I don't know if I explained that correctly or not.
I had a pair of Fred sunglasses and I had them put in a polarized Oakley black irridium lens. I'm sure that they could put in any lens or color you wanted.
It was quite expensive though.

Sallie, I am glad to hear you got the O lenses in your Freds.

Mike, I didn't think you were being a wise-ass at all , I asked the question and everyone went right to impact protection but it was trying to focus on clarity and quality that everyone seemed to pass by.

I don't know what kind of lenses Mike has in his Oakley's, but if you've got enough dough, you can get lenses that are better than the O's.

My optometrist wears the same scrip as I do, and he let me try on his glasses. They've got Zeiss lenses. OMG! It felt like I could see the most minute details in perfect vision. Way better than my contacts or my Oakley scrip pair.

John, there's not much to argue, as the Zeiss lenses are prohibitively expensive to damn near everyone. That's like questioning whether a Ferrari is really a better car than anything we could afford. It might be marginally better, but the cost makes arguement kinda pointless.

As for protection, I don't know of any other companies that actually subject their sunglasses to the ANSI tests. And I'm not sure if anyone really wears Oakley's just for their protective benefits. The majority on here is likely to prefer to take a shot in the eye, rather than damage a pair of X-Metals.

But maybe I'm adding fuel to the fire, and people will want to spout their love of the O. That's what we're all here for. If Oakley's about the art, than customizing should be a natural progression of that, even if it means sacrificing the possitive qualities of the Oakley lens for something that will be more aesthetically pleasing for whomever's shelf the pair sits on.

No one will hurt my feelings if they disagree.

BTW, Lex, did you ever get the Pure Red lenses you've been thinking about?

hmmm, well i'm not familiar with zeiss so i wasn't planning on arguing directly

i consider the protective qualities of the lens part of a ready-for-anything attitude - pre-oakley a shatterable lens never bothered me, but now i think it'd make me uncomfortable

you see oakleys as safety gear on shows like "monster garage" from time to time.

lex hasn't gotten those lenses, but he does keep talking about it.... ;)
