got this from my sales rep ; enjoy reading

Joaquin Rodriguez is a good spanish cyclist and a real Oakley fan from a long time ago. This season, he signed a contract with Illes Balears team where they have a team deal with Spiuk for helmets and glasses. You will remember Spiuk, because this is the brand who copied our M frame last year.....

When at the begining of the winter the team sent him his helmet and glasses, he started to ride with his new glasses but after a couple of days he got a big headache. He decided to ride without glasses and his headache disapeared...

Like every winter Joaquin went to Milano (Italy) for to visit a prestigious italian biomechanic. One of the tests that they made was a balance test during the ride. They made the test without glasses and the balance was perfect for him. They put the Spiuk glasses on and the balance was completly wrong. Finally, they put the Oakleys on, and the balance was perfect again.....

This Biomechanic prepaired a report where he explain that it's very dangerous for Joaquin and for the other riders to ride with the Spiuk glasses. Joaquin brougth the report to the team. They accepted the report but they didn't accept that he ride with another brand, because Spiuk payed more than 200.000 € for the team deal.....but after 4 stages at Paris Nice riding without glasses Joaquin push again to the team and he said that he couldn't ride without glasses.

Finally they accepted and he put his Oakley M frame for the Fifth stage.....and he won....

The day later we saw at the newspapers in Spain an Oakley victory over a rider who has a team deal with a brand who payed more than 200.000 € for this deal...

Hmmm I 'll have to weigh in. I traded a Spanish duathalete dude a pair of Gascans for a pair of Spiuk Yara sunglasses. I like them better than the HalfJacket. The lenses are perfectly fine. Oakley Cool they are not!!! Optically imperfect? hardly.

Why do you think most Team Rabobank cyclists put on the Oakleys in stead of their sponsored brand when not officially on team duty?

Interesting, Iam a cyclist, too. Before started wearing oakley I weared Rudy Project. they were heavy and ugly.
But for balance...mmhhhh. Very interesting. It has to do with the optical correctness, right? Or the mental fact, that he want OAKLEY and not "Spiuk".
Spiuk, never heard of them, but think they don't use the 8,75 base and so one chance for headaches. Or he have very good eyes and the lenses have a coating in the lens side which is to your eyes, and he had problems with that, like our cyclops

I will google something...found sth.

Spiuk:
"LENSES
The lenses are made of shatterproof polycarbonate and have an anti-fog system allowing for maximum safety.

The FRAMES are made of Grilamid, an unbreakable and extremely lightweight material."

Bah, they are ugly like Rudy Project...all glasses of them

Grilamid TR is a transparent polymer in granular form, which combines a variety of excellent properties. This product is such that specific property requirements can be achieved through modification of the material. A noble polymer with unlimited possibilities.

- High transparency
- Good chemical resistance
- Low density
- Low moisture absorption
- Good flexural bending strength
- High heat distortion temperature

It has to do with the optical correctness, right?
First you need to know:
If you would be watching 'at distance' (in the optical branche this would be 6 meters) the axis of your eyes would be parralel. This is, if you'd have perfect visionary balance.

Most high curvature lenses are not as optically correct as Oakley is. Meaning they have more or less prismatic imbalance. To better understand this, try looking through a glass of water...
This imbalance causes your eyes to compromise this by, mostly, turning outwards. Imagine having to do this for the length of a cycling race, let's say some 6 hours.

The constantly compromising of your eyes might indeed cause an imbalance. Years ago I have helped a lot of people with simmilar problems by adding a little prismatic correction to their prescription. Some of our patients didn't go out on the street, because of these imbalance problems...

I have a adidas, a smith and some ecko shades beside all the oakleys. The smiths are rubbish, the ecko*s have cheap lenses, but actually they are fashion shades.
The only exceptions are the adidas, they look nice, are light and the lenses look equal like the gold iridiums. I*m not going to change the label, but adidas aren*t that bad.

TMHO Adidas is the only manufacturer that comes close to the Oakley quality and might even be a threat to Oakley at some point.

Actually Edwin, you should have a look at Serengeti. The quality of their stuff is phenomenal. Their driving glasses are just amazing.

I agree with you partially. The contrast enhancing capabillity of Serengetti lenses is very good. (sold tons of them in my days, before Oakley) However, both lenses combined don't even come close to the optical quality of Oakley.

Therefor, as an optician, my vote is for Oakley!

the XYZ test video with a metal bob head and two laser pointer positioned on each eyes to a crosshair explains it all too about the bias on every other brand's lens.
