Am I the only one here that thinks the E60 M5 is hideous? I, like most European car devotees, consider the E39 the pinnacle of the 5-series in terms of styling and performance.

About the only thing that's pretty about the E60 is under the hood: the V10 on ITBs.

I must admit to being a bit of a BMW lover, especially the 5 series. Personally although the looks of the E60 are not as lovely as the previous model, I still think it looks badass, especially with the bodykit on the M5.

The M5 must be a beast, Clarkson loved it and even Martin Brundle has said it's the 'most ballistic thing' that he's even driven on the road.

OR...; an american walked in while the designer was creating that car , and the american yelled ISTHATIT ??

the german engineer obiviously ( in that timeperiod ) didn't know what the guy yelled , and thought ; that's a good name for my ....eeeuuuhhh "vehicle " ISTHEETTA , neinnein,, ISETTA

And that is the true story ( i think )

My biggest problem with the E60 is the front fascia and headlight configuration.

This is turning into such a dangerous thread ! hahaha I love it. Next thing you know it'll be responsible for casualties on the road...oh well. Die happily at least. I got a picture of my speedometer at 190 and the cruise control is on, you can see the light signal, with both my feet on the hood...yeah I know it's stupid, but...yeah. I'll try to find the pic and post it when I can.

A car's looks shouldn't have to "grow on you". It shouldn't have to be seen in person to be appreciated.

A beautiful car should be beautiful in photographs, and beautiful in the flesh. It should inspire awe and stir emotion upon first glance. That was the way it was with me and the E39. THe E60, on the other hand, might be nice from certain angles, but unforgiving and horrendously ugly from others (esp. the front). I sat in one at the NAIAS in Detroit last year, and I still think it's hideous. I was there with a group of European car enthusiasts, and it was a unanimous decision: the prettiest thing about the E60 are the ITBs.

Dave its a pity you feel that way about the E60. I have seen some really beautiful E39 5 series and have really drooled, but they are a bit boring and run of the mill at the same time. In other words, they're not in your face enough. I think the E60 is absolutley unique in design and I admire that BMW had the guts to go through with it. I like the headlight design, one thing I would maybe change is the tailights, make them more streamlined.

I cant wait to see the new 3 series coupe, which I heard they will be calling the 4 series. That thing will rock!
