I am staring at the two top most threads right now and the one is Customs on Athletes and the other is Rarities in our collection. They both make me want soemthing different, something no one else has and it further sparked an idea.

This year we saw the release of the Fluoro Camo packs, limited to 1200 each. New color combos available to the few who purchased that item. I want more of this, a lot more of this and on a smaller run, broader scale. I see all this custom frame jobs out there, and let's take the Monster Dog for example since it was included in the Fluoro pack and we have now seen it in many other combos unavailable to us, to help illustrate my idea.

I would love to see limited run Dogs in numbers of 250 to 500. 1 new pair every 1-2 months. (we would also see other limited run frames at the same time so it's not just one style frame a month.) One month it could be Green Camo/Bronze, the next it could be Lava/VR28 and so on. Colors used for the custom program and older colors that aren't readily used. They would only be available at oakley.com for ease of purchase.

But a smaller release, broader program like this would give everyone a chance to own something that not every one else would. It would also be a great thing for collectors.

Am I explaining the idea well? It's really just like the Fluoro packs but just for glasses. Or the way there used to be OPD and Sunglass Hut exclusives. I guess that could be another way to run this program. One large OPD could carry one limited color every so many months while another large OPD carries another. Unless it becomes too stretchline. Maybe still leaving the possibility for Oakley to sell them direct as well, even with a preorder list so you can get the pair u want most.

I still believe that Oakley should have a more available custom program a la Nike ID.

Well surely this wouldn't be too hard for them to do, the custom jobs can't really cost much more to make, theyre usually just a different colour and or lens combo, and with a factory that size and with all the technology, there must be an airbrush or two lying around, so running limited numbers would be good for guys like us (and sallie!) as theyre near enough guaranteed to sell, it'd be pointless making thousands cos lets face it alot of people like Oakleys (Oaklies?) but wouldnt scour the planet for a particular model I'm sure, given there are about 180 people on this site, and lets say another 3-5 hundred around the globe, 200 or so pairs might be about right, then any that are left over would surely still sell at the usual outlet. And while I'm a fan of all things Oakley, I usually go for the X-Metals, whereas a limited edition would tempt me more to stack up the O-matter. They could easily be numbered up too and maybe come in a matching bag or something...

I love the idea of custom oakleys like the Nike ID thing but I bet they would be more expensive. but hey if I can get those green camo ones id pay anything.

I say every member of this site should get a custom pair for being such loyal fans.

That sounds like a great idea to me.

Like I said in another thread, o.com could at least be set up to handle the BTO line (Half Jacket, Pro M Frame, Racing Jacket).

Toss in Monster Dog and Mag M Frame.

I guess I'm in the minority, I mostly prefer the more industrial frame colours coming out these days rather than Neon Camo with Electrified Zowie Iridium (an exaggeration, and to each their own anyway, really).

Still, if I had my way (and some of these are garish):

Zero in

Polished Aluminum - VR28
Blue Camo - G30
Jet Black - Gold Iridium
Night Camo - Black Iridium
Carbon Fiber - Titanium Iridium Polarized
Pearl - VR28 Blue Polarized
Persimmon - Black Iridium

I could come up with more (and for more frames), but you get the idea.

I agree with all that has been said so far in this thread. Limited Edition and/or custom Oakleys would be a great reward for all of us loyal fans.

Well if Oakley DID do something like NikeID, the prices would probably be outrageously high, though it would be a pretty nifty idea nonetheless since there are bound to be people with enough cash to dish out.

Nike ID isn't much more than regular Nikes. I couldn't see an Oakley program being too much more. Maybe 25-30% more. If they have the frames ready and the lenses ready, it's just a matter of a new department assebling them.

The base idea I had though for the limited run frames every few months, I could only see the glasses being $10 - $20 more. Nothing outrageous.
