I guess the fit must be the same (i assume the regular and XLJ have the same top profiles to fit the HJ frame) but I reckon the regular HJ lens suits the R2 frame style better.

great news Adam!
this opens up to so many possibilities for the RII frame. personally, i love how that XLJ lens lok with the RII. now if only Oakley can make an interchangeable lens system on a frame that fits me...

I personally like the XLJ lens look in the R2.
I am still struggling to fit the G30 XLJ in the R2.
It does not fit!! I keep losing the the small washer!
Not as easy as the juliet lens to replace.
I will prevail though.

I had to leave the washer out on mine, there was no way it would go in, no matter what I tried!

Ah! So no washer and no screw eh Adam,
and the lens still stays in?
I'll go have a couple of pints, and get some brute force and ignorance on them, Erm I think

No washer but I did use the screw, I dont think they'd hold without the screw in. It doesn't seem to cause too much problem not having the washer though.

I just tried this on mine, and learned a few things, so here's a how-to:

First unscrew the T5 set screw from the inner side near the temple. Be very careful not to drop it.

Slide the lens out from the temple side first, and look for the washer. The washer is a rubber piece that the set screw goes into. It sort of makes up for the lack of 'hook' that the R2 lens lacks, but HJ ones do. Here's a comparison picture.

Since X-metal doesn't bend like O Matter, the washer keeps the small notch in place.

Once you remove the lens, you can insert the HJ lens, nose bridge side first, and simply slide the rest into place. There may be a gap as some have said, but you just need to puch a little further. They won't stay as is, but I looked through the set screw hole, and if I could push it just a little further, the screw would fit. I really thing you may need to grind the notch down maybe half the width of the screw hole (not much), rather than grinding anything else.

I don't have any spare lenses, but I have the display rack, which is just as well for this experiment, since it says the color in huge letters. Enjoy.

I want to resurect a SUPER dead thread...

Dann, do you still have these pictures you could repost or possible send via email? I need new lenses for my R2's and of course it is the gold iridium which Oakley doesn't have anymore of but they have black iridum... DOH.

Thanks and sorry for the old thread bring back

I do on my hard drive archive at home. I will try to remember to get them. The basic jist is that the R2 has a rubber ring that cushions the lens while staying in place via the T5 torx screw. The half jacket lens uses the normal 'hook' that would fit into the temple area, to catch on the T5, and stay in place that way.

Ok that would be cool if you remember them. So do you reuse the rubber ring or does it not fit?

Thanks again Dann

You don't need the rubber ring, since the hook of the HJ lens ends up serving the same function.

This is cool.
Now I know I have lots more options for my R2.
Thanks for resurrecting this dead but useful thread!

Ah, I have fond memories of these early customization discoveries. I remember doing a few R2/HJ lens swaps to my R2 frame, but personally always thought the HJ lenses looked a bit too out of place in the frame to keep it that way.

For what it's worth (very little), I recall just removing the inserting lenses without messing with removing any screws or washers.
