In-Residence Collection
Table of Contents:

The In-Residence Events were three pop-up galleries located in LA, Sydney, and London, each celebrating Skate and Cycling culture.

Several pieces of eyewear were specially produced for the Oakley In-Residence pop-up skate and art space in Los Angeles, California on April 29th, 2015. Each piece of eyewear was hand-painted by the Oakley design team using custom colorways and graphics and were paired with a 35" x 59" flag that symbolizes skate spot and the eyewear's design. The flag was also hung at the event space.

The event also had a unique skate themed microbag:

They weren't for sale at the event, only on display... so you're not really late to the party.

6-8mo after the event the hand painted skate decks hanging on the wall were auctioned off... the eyewear never surfaced... until now.

I know of only 1 other collector, aside from myself, that actually made it to the LA In Residence; I went there for an open to the public event one night, and was invited out another night for a private event by Mansfield (at the time when he was in his role as the Oakley arm to SGH). This was during the time when Type-O was still working. I'll try to get some event photos uploaded.

The event was tied to the 8 iconic skate spots in LA

The skate decks were auctioned off later in the year (2015), but the flags were not listed in the online auctions. Towards the end of 2015 Girl Skateboards released all the skate decks in the "LA Art Dump Series," where I picked up my LA High School deck.

Up until now, I had no idea where the hand painted Frogskins & Slivers that were designed to match the Flags and Skate Decks were... I had pretty much accepted that they were snagged up by someone, and never to be seen again.

I really regret not going to it when it was in London, although I didn't hear about any hand painted pairs in the store. I know some members made it to it. anyone know?

I know of two friends that made it to the London In Residence event; and from what I recall of the photos, there was no hand painted eyewear. The theme of the event in LA was different from the one in London, the cancelled event in NYC, and the last event in Sydney.

The event in LA was around skateboarding with an emphasis on the photography/filming of the skateboard scene in LA and the impact it had on skating. The event was and artist style event showing short films, photos, art, and sessions focusing on those aspects of skating.

Then they tied in the artists from Girl Skateboards to design the flags & skate decks... and then the eyewear was painted match/coordinate with each. It only last 16 days, and then the space was shut down; 1st week was film art focus, 2nd week was photo art focus.

Here is what I am aware of, in the order they took place surrounding their #OneObsession & #LiveYours campaign: (all of which were supposed to be around Oakley's return to sport; the sports that helped define Oakley.)

LA In Residence - Skateboarding : 2 week event; studio & pop-up skate park that celebrates the culture of skateboarding. (April & May 2015)
-Custom Microbag (very limited quantities)
-White Screen Print Shirt (had to be invited/attend the SGH/Oakley event)
Here's my collection from the event... (The skate deck was purchased later, the mini flag (there was only 1 of each flag from what I was told) & Wilshire Rail staff shirt was a gift from the person running the event and not promo items, the white shirt/box/armband/tickets were from the SGH/Oakley event I was invited to, and then there is the Microbag that was the only real promo item)

London In Residence - Cycling : 3 month event focus on the sport with cycling workshops, film events, & group rides from the event. (June, July, & August 2015)
-Custom Microbag (appeared there were more quantities than LA)
-Bike Tool
-Musette
-Cycling Kit/Jersey (didn't get too many details on this, but had to attend/sign-up for event from what I understand)
Here's my collection from the event... (all gifts from friends and what I understand to all be promo items, except the shirt which is from the London O Store.)

NYC In Residence - Baseball : Not many details, but the rumor was the tie to baseball in NYC. We've since witnessed Oakley pulling their presence/store out of Yankee Stadium, closing Angles Stadium O Store, and I am hearing (no confirmation) that the presence/store at Rangers Stadium has been pulled.
-From what I was told, nothing ever made it to printing for this event.

The above were the 3 initial events Oakley had planned, with the LA Event was a last minute addition. I haven't heard a definitive reason why, but rumor was Lux cancelled the NYC Event.

And then this last event was announced; seemed to be a last minute thing...

Sydney In Residence - Skateboarding : 1 month event celebrating the creativity within and the culture of skateboarding. And the timeline was around the release of the Latch with Kevin Koston, Sean Malto, Curren Caples & Atiba Jefferson. (November 2015)
-From my understanding, no promo items were made/printed for this event.

Thanks! And you're welcome, glad I was able to share it; it was a really interesting time where I truly thought there was hope for a comeback from Oakley with them putting on these events.

Thanks! The Big Ben images are on an Oakley t-shirt. Not sure if it was a current sirt at the time, or an old one, as it was a gift.

Here's the link to the In Residence Website: http://www.oakley.com/in-residence

And I just realized something... the Sydney Event didn't have any real promo items, but it was in sync with the release of the Latch.

Kevin Koston, Sean Malto, Curren Caples & Atiba Jefferson were involved with The Studio in Sydney... and then there was that Latch GWP that came out of the sky that featured all 4 of them.

The In Residence Sydney Event was November 5th - November 29th, 2015; the Latch GWP was released just prior to the event. (I picked up my Latch GWP on October 10th.)

And the lettering is in the styling of the In Residence event lettering...

I had a good friend looking out for me on this 81. It still amazes me that it was located with how fast they sold out. I really need a better place to display this... I'm always forgetting I have it. I keep the Latches and Micro for them on display in a Tower. I'm thinking Inmay need to create an entire In Residence display once the Frogs arrive.
