Frame: Black
Lens: Grey Sweep
A gift from a friend; he discovered them while packing to move and thought me a better curator than he. Easily my oldest dated frame. Very cool to see the structural design principles have remained the same in subsequent generations of M Frames, Radar, etc. The unobtanium still provides grip for the three point fit and while I have never worn them for practical use they have been great accessories for halloween and eighties parties and they garner the nostalgic "Hey, I used to have a pair of those..!" stories.
Frame: Crystal Clear
Lens: Red Iridium
I had one of these only very shortly before giving it away. They came with another pair, so essentially free. The lack of fangs doesn't help keep them on and seems to make them front heavy. I'd prefer the second generation with the strengthened hinge and better wrap.
Frame: Crystal Blue
Lens: +Red Iridium
I hadn't seen or wore a Gen 1 Mumbos since I lost that last pair and when I got this pair, I realized just how much better the current M Frames are. They still fit fine but the earstems are very short so they don't feel quite as secure when I wear them. The plastic also feels a little more fragile, though I'm sure thats perception more than reality. Still, they get four stars for being such a great starting point for Oakley's signature set of shades.
Frame: Many
Lens: Many
These were a natural evolution from the 1st Generation M Frame.
These were designed really for the sportsman.
The hammerstems were extended for a improved fit, and the logos on the hammertems were changed to the O icon.
Also,Lenses all now supported the stretch logo instead of being plain.
Interchangeable lenses for total flexiblity, HUGE range of funky retro colours ment these were a massive hit,and really put the big O on the map.
Frame: Crystal
Lens: Blue Iridium Sweep
I went with a Sweep to get the slimmer lens, and a style sharper then Razor Blade. Heater was just too big, as was Strike. Especially in a skeletal frame. The Hammer Ear stem was a nice touch, added some spring. I wish I had gone with he Hybrid in retrospect. I used it a lot in snow and for a while as a normal wear pair. Sturdy, easy to change lens and the ear sock options were pretty good. Pro Clear was great.
