- Split Jacket (SI), as a rep/lens -
Not a bad lens, at least for what I use it for. I am giving this one a 2 just because it does what I expected.
I think I have a unique perspective on this particular lens since I have to be APEL compliant when I am at work. I know that the Light Grey isn't really a "contrast" lens, but I can't wear most of the contrast lenses (outside of VR28) in garrison so this one fills the gap. On cloudy or stormy days, the Black or Grey is too dark, which on those days I would generally have on my HI Blue Twenty when driving in and around anyway. The Light Grey fills that gap when the HIB come off because its not too dark (obviously) but still grey so technically still APEL compliant (although I am sure there are some that would argue against that :D)
The look is not unlike Grey or Grey Polarized. People can see your eyes no matter the weather conditions. With Grey, of course the darker the light or weather the less your eyes show. With Light Grey, they are always visible and that is to be expected.
With general wear, its the same crystal clarity of all the other Oakley lenses. Nice and sharp with respect to the tint and as long as conditions stay inclimate, my eyes stay comfortable.
Of course, outside of those conditions they have to come right back off for something darker. Definitely for overcast, haze, or general dreariness. Not even for days with just clouds bouncing around where the sun goes in and out. As soon as a ray hits my eyes, the squinting begins.
Definitely a niche lens and I can totally understand why many people who have tried it tend to not prefer it. I just so happened to have found that niche and for what its worth, works out pretty well for me.
Not my favorite but definitely useful and I am glad I got it. Now if only I can get the polarized version ...
Overall: 2 - Nice To Have - Wait For A Sale
How do you make one of the most boring Oakley lenses even worse? Decrease its intensity.
Light grey is the culmination of a lackluster lens being watered-down and stripped of its already demeaning personality. You'd be much better suited using Slate or Warm Grey than this lens.
This is a weird lens. It strikes me as an indoor type of lens, and I guess it would be ok on a cloudy day with reflective ambient light. The weird part is that it is a very light lens, and it was offered on the Thump, which has a flip-up lens, which negates the need for a light lens...
