Best lense on the market for skiing in the North East. I have them on a pair of splice and an old A-Frame. Unless the sun was shining like I was on the beach in Florida, then these are the only option up here in the North. Lot of overcast, snowy, low-light ski days. Awesome
I have these lenses in the xlj version for my half jackets. They are a very sharp set of lenses. I use them for baseball on overcast days, and they brighten everything up. I also use them quite a bit for night time skiing.
I have them in a Gascan as well as an extra lens for my Wisdom Goggles. I haven't really used them, but when looking through them to get a feel for what they do was what sold me. They are a very purpose built lens. Maximum contrast with minimal shading. They are amazing for seeing definition in snow. I'm very surprised at how in-demand they are becoming...
I have these lenses in my Flak Jacket, and use them mainly for my skating. As it is inside a hall I cannot have really dark lenses, these were the ultimate outcome. They make the world just looks a bit brighter.
On certain angles you won't be able to see my eyes, but mostly you can just see them. I don't really care about that, but would love to have them completely mirroring. In that case you have to go to the H.I. Blue lenses, point is that the yellow in this lense is just so fine, it makes things a bit softer to the eye, and at the same time the world a brighter place.
I once had an Oakley Blade lens (bought in 1991) in Yellow. This High Intensity Yellow tint is in a pair of HalfJacket XLJ that I have for evening or fog bike riding. It is between Clear and Persimmon in light transmission. Better than the old Blades colour as I recall (Yellow without Iridium is still available in the Radar versions) but really a speciality low light item.
These lenses are horrible. Some batches look pretty cool from the outside, the blue mirror can be incredible (Frankie_f_4_f has HIY Gascan lenses that almost look like Ice Iridium in the sun). But the ghosting is the strongest I've seen so far. And there's no improvement like on the new ruby clears (almost no ghosting) - I have HIY for the Crosshair and you go crazy watching you're own eyes moving. Same thing on the Twenty XX and the gascan. I really comment the usual Yellow or Persimmon lenses - or if you want to have a freaky mirror, take the new rubys.
great contrast lenses. i've worn them for shooting, to cycling, or just because the weather here was grey. the only thing i don't like about them is the ghosting from oncoming headlights. this came into play if i was cycling at night, of course. but a good lense for most low light applications. they do, however have the blue iridium coating, yet the box and sales guy both say they're the h.i. yellow, not blue... i wonder.
Use this lens whilst cycling - good for when you don't want to use clear, but only really good for indoor/dusk/night.
I really like to use these when the sun is almost down. It is good for going on the driving range or for an evening bike ride.
These are available on old vintage models, but can still be obtained for Half Jacket replacement lenses. They are the same as H.I. Blue only without the iridium coating, so viewing through them will be the same, but people will be able to see your eyes, since the mirror is not there.
I have these on my XLj,
they are good for golf and flat light skiing.
ive also been told H.I. Yellow is good for shooting but i have yet to test that theory.
I should mention that it works fine for me when riding my road bike in the evenings. The Yellow with Iridium coating softens the headlights from the meeting traffic quite well.
