If you'd like to reach me, you probably should try through my blog. It saddens me to go, but some seemingly nice members on the surface really showed their true colors.

Heh, I'm sure no one will miss me here anyway. After all, I dared to criticize Oakley!

I'd like to thank the tick (I believe it was him) for taking a picture of his XX Metal 24k's at a slight angle.

This is a really quick and dirty ps job. But I just love doing this because it does give me some vague ideas of how the glasses might look.... taking lots of sizing assumptions though. The lasso tool is tough to use with a trackpad, so it's more than a little messy. :)

But these things IMO look the business.

Oh nice Juliets. I wonder... could they fit me? Well I mean, they'd fit, but what I mean is, would they look good? Not convinced, sadly, but they look great on you. :)

Here's some phun with photoshop - a very quick and dirty job. I tried to find a head-on shot of bottlecaps, but what with angle and sizing (and color), it's bit of a guessjob. Oh well, it's funny anyway. :)

It's tough to take pictures of yourself, especially in the harshest lighting in the world(tm)

Got my beanies today, and it's the first time that a beanie has ever looked decent on me. For those of you wondering how Whiskers fit, hold on to your hats..

I'm not going to lighten up when biggotry is involved. To me, there's no difference between a sexist and racist. It's all the same kind of prejudicial thinking. He owes all women here a very public apology.

But if I'm retarded and stupid for daring to debate an opposing viewpoint, perhaps it's just me that doesn't fit in here. I didn't realize how maniacal some could get for daring to critcize Oakley. That's what it comes down to I think. I said something, nothing any different than what many have said in the past, but I'm retarded, it must be my time of the month...

Seriously, on how many forums is this kind of behavior ok? Not many that I know of.

Sorry for daring to criticize the almighty O. I'll take the hint and be sure to make myself more scarce in the future. I apologize for invading the boy's club.

I prefer ruby to ruby clear. I know the ruby clear has that sex appeal of collectivity, but how do you use ruby clear lenses really? No seriously, I don't know. Maybe the camera isn't picking up the real life usability of it.

Come on cinder/ti and black/ruby! :)

You can't tell me though that this driver doesn't at least have a business address in Charlotte, NC. :) That's where they all are, pretty much.

I just don't agree with the regional exclusivity idea. For one thing, Oakley can't fully execute the idea, given the real lack of distribution in a given region. In other words, some regions are stronger than others. The stronger regions get the better stuff, so it's exclusive to the point of being negative.

Obviously they don't agree. Only the long term will tell how correct it is, I just don't feel it's right.

WTF? If you were in the room I'd deck you for saying that.

That is so amazingly sexist, it's unreal. Does this post imply that this is a men's club only? That to disagree, or to put forth a strong opinion is not welcome?

So to be assertive, to take a non-popular stance and defend it, that is the same as having my "time of the month"? Is that the best you could come up with?

If you have a differing opinion, try using full sentences to describe it. Otherwise, you just played yourself. I and every other woman reading this knows what you are.

I have no beef with anyone who disagrees with me. I believe that my opinion in a debate about female style may be more valid, given that I am a woman, but otherwise, it's just sunglasses.

But now I do very very much have a beef with you. Or rather, I would if you were worth my time.

Those are sweet. I so wish I could find a pair. Weren't there some on ebay back when I wasn't looking? That's my luck. As long I'm looking, they'll fail to appear. ;)

Have you seen girls wearing Juliets? I believe there's two in the PW thread that will so prove you wrong. Now that's a frame that suits so many faces. I rock Juliets. X-metal XX's not-so-much, but Juliets? Sure!

I'll say again, I'm all for new, but I want well and truly new.. not pretend new. As for oil drums, if girls are trying to wear gascans, I can't see how an oil drum would be so far removed. I think the best of both worlds there is the Five 3.0, personally.

Pablo, I'm not so much talking about just myself. I know myself well enough to know that most big sunglasses just aren't for me, no matter how "in" they are. But I'm just concerned that Oakley has jumped on this train too late, and it's the end of the trend. It's been going for a while now, and I'm proud to say I was with those who thought the style was ugly the first time around too. :)

My personal fav's aren't going to be the female norm. For instance how many girls would care about chasing down a pair of Splices? Not many, even if the style is just cat-eye enough to work. I think the pair I rock the least are the twenties. They're big, and well.. ok, I can wear them. But they're not my first choice. They'll largely work because I wear tie-died shirts in the summer, and nothing matches that like fire iridium.

Seems we're kind of polarized here between people who think all Oakley is good Oakley, and those who'd like to see trend-setting as oppossed to trend-following.

Hey, I'm all for more styles for us ladies. Most of the styles are well and truly unisex, but if Oakley wanted to come up with something for us, I'm all for it.

Just not this trend-following fashion victim crap. I think they can do better. ;)

Kim, brick wall, brick wall, Kim. A guy isn't going to tell me what women know about style. If yall are around girls who don't know a dead fad when they see it, then I suppose it's possible. For example in Charleston (where I'm from) they're 10 years behind the rest of the world. Part of being trendy is spotting the trends that are being beat into the ground, and jumping off the boat before you become a fashion victim. Guys can argue until they're blue in the face that they think they understand this, but it seems they don't. ;)

These new frames screem fashion victim. There's a difference between setting the trend, and following a dead one. This is a dead trend. You can always spot them when every brand is copying every other brand. It ain't rocket science, not at all hard to figure out. ;)

I say, if girls want to wear bigger Oakleys, go Oil Drum or Crosshair. Now the Crosshair is a spin off of an older style, but it has enough new in its design to be cool.

I ammended mine a bit. I went with the ruby idea because it's just so.. O-review. After all, it's the signature pair.

stock - cinder red/titanium

non stock - Polished black/Ruby

I also really liked that matte black 24k suggestion. I think it would look great as polished black as well.

There seems to be a controversy over my first suggestion that it's not stock. The powers that be may correct it if it's wrong, but I thought it was a valid choice, given that polished black exists, and ruby must exist, given that someone just bought a pair. As for fire, well that's plainly non-stock.

No one's gonna convince me that I'm wrong here. I don't follow many female stereotypes, but I'll follow this one. I'm a woman, and I know what looks good! ;)

Anyway, back to the topic.. wouldn't it better to vote for colorway? I mean lense color and frame color is so connected together. You can't have one without the other.

Rick, you're wife looks like a very nice woman... having said that, the Riddles just don't look too great. And it's not your wife's fault. They look too much like goggles trying to be sunglasses.

I suspect that the oil drum cool if you're into the big styles. Now that's something that follows a general trend in bigness, but yet is its own style.

Yeah, I once got a t6 on ebay, to replace the screen on my p900, and it was a complete waste. I do believe my swiss army cybertool 41 has one though. Haven't exactly had the urge to test it on the Juliets though.

No, she's not an idiot. She's paid to look like she loves them though, that much would be accurate.

I meant idiot in more the generic sense of the word... the kind of girls who'd look at these and just ooh and ahh, even though they're knockoffs of a 60'sish-70'sish style that was never too pretty to begin with. Nothing new, nothing original.. not even some new take on an original... just something from the reject pile.

That's the kind of idiot I'm talking about. The kind that buys something that seems to be in style, only it isn't, because it's not even the real deal, and who thinks they're cool for doing it.

The only thing they will get is that lense quality, that's about it.

I'd like to add that I'm sorry if my opinion here treads on some toes. I just don't want guys here deluded that all girls will fall for this. A lot of mass market girls might, and others might get hooked into the O because of these, but there are those of us who know a trend being beat into the ground when we see one.

Those pics you posted just proved the point that they're too durn big for most of us girls to wear, and I don't even have a small face (though my hat size is small.. go figure). ;)

I'm not baiting Rick though. If I were baiting Rick, I'd be talking about taking my Juliets to the local optician, and having them put any ole lense in there as a custom job. Now that's baiting Rick! ;)

Yeah, some of us want to start ordering some Oakleys already.. even if they are completely too big for us. ;)

Jan 23, 2006 12:18 PM
So because some idiot poses in them, they must be good right? Well, some of us have better taste than that. If that makes me less female to some small minded forum guy, then so be it. I have better taste, thank you very much. ;)

And might I add, she's paid to look like she loves them.

I just hope that whatever is voted on ultimately is realistic, with a slant more towards how well they'd look while being worn as oppossed to pure collectibility. It may be treading on some toes to say this, but Oakley is about being worn, and not just being put in a display case because it's rare. The majority rules, but you don't want Oakley laughing you out the door either. They have a brand image to protect.

So when is this going to happen anyway? We have nothing to even take to Oakley, and don't even know who would do that or how many people would order? It's still a bit vaporware, sadly.

OMG, hideous! And there's nothing new about them, they are the classic channel ripoff.

So the women are getting the rejects then. Farking typical. >:-(

Jan 22, 2006 6:24 AM
There's only a few of us that have been beating that drum... but it's so true. They aren't going to make pink and orange swirly frames with lime green iridium for 10's or even 100's of people. ;)

(There's someone now doing a Homer Simpson over that suggestion.. stop it!) :p

I say we go for the official lense color of O-review: ruby.

Assuming you all decide on something that can actually be seen and used in public, at what point is this going to be taken to Oakley, and at what point are we going to know how long it will take? Weeks, months, years? Is it just a Vaporware idea? Where do we all stand really?
